Absolutely and on a team with unbelievable talent 1-6 that is a recipe for consistency and strength. On a team that lost 12 games in a rather weak SEC, that's not the case however."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

It was interesting to watch Ohio St in the Big Ten tournament. 4 of their 5 starters averaged 40+ minutes each in three games. They played the 3 games in 3 nights and won in the afternoon of the last day 90-61.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostDepth is overrated in the NCAA playoffs. A lot of good coaches like to find their core 6-7 man rotation and pretty much stick to it.
In the Dance you play 3 games in 7-8 days at a time. Yeah, I'd say depth is overrated, indeed.I'm like LeBron James.

Look at last game without Haws. We played only 7 players. Plus Miles for 5 minutes. JT played 17 ineffective minutes. All 5 starters played 30 mins, except for Jackson--only because of foul trouble. That is not depth, especially with Loyd and others playing out of position.Originally posted by Surfah View PostSeriously? Tav. Davies. Loyd. Abuou.
I don't think depth is a problem with Haws, I just think that not having one of your best players is a big problem.

Agree depth is overrated. It's important at the 4/5 where you have foul trouble. That's where we're the least deep. Over the course of the season it's also important to cover for injuries, etc., but in a tournament setting, it's overrated. That's been one of my minor beefs with Rose, is that he plays too many guys. His preference is to have a backup at each position and play 10 guys. One of the lamest things I saw last week was guys on CB pointing out the number of minutes various players for UNM played in the 1st round, like it matters at all.

Why don't you try to talk sports for once? Do you concede you're completely ignorant of sports (as manifest by your inablitiy to say anything substantive about it)? Thus, we see how much credence to give to your assessment of my sports knowledge.Originally posted by Fiyero View PostI wondered why this thread has over 200 replies already. Browsed through it and ah, SU tried to talk sports again.

I may have SU-like egg on my face but I don't care. Rose is going to do it. Can you dig it?!?!Originally posted by Surfah View PostMe too. A lot. Florida doesn't concern me at all. Looking beyond them I think we matchup really well with Kansas State. Though that will be practically a home game for them, something to consider is Kansas will be playing in OKC too. I have a feeling we're going to have a lot of Jayhawk fans on our side.
I am at work and I am too lazy to dig up your football rally crys but they have a familiar ring. Let's just hope that your basketball speeches are more effective. You quickly fell off the Cougz championship run in football. After watched K-State a few times this year, bYu will have their hands full. That being said, I would love to see them make it to the Elite 8.I'm your huckleberry.

Fell off what wagon? That was a damn good year. And I enjoyed every moment of it. Except FSU and TCU.Originally posted by FN Phat View Post

But beating Utah and then pasting my FIL and BIL's favorite team OSU was awesome.

All this arguing about what BYU will do in the tourney is pretty funny. Here are my general thoughts -- not aimed at anyone in particular.
If gambling on sports for years has taught me anything, it's that NOBODY KNOWS and it's IMPOSSIBLE to predict what BYU will do versus Florida or later on in the tournament.
Trying to act like you can predict outcomes of future sporting events is a lot like pretending you know what happens after death. You can hope for something good to happen -- but in the end you just have to wait and see.
I'm hoping for BYU to go the Sweet 16 this year and for some type of enjoyable afterlife, but I'm not really expecting either of those things.
