The obsession with this Henderson kid amazes me.

He is so incredibly inefficient right now. He is a shooter right now, and that's about it. Defense - below average, passing ability-below average, ball handling/creating - below average, athletic ability - below average.

Lets get back to his shooting. 37% from the floor, including 33% from 3's, and 78% from the line.

Maybe he will be good in the future, but right now his overall play is sub par.
He is a chucker right now with a low shooting % that cant handle the ball or play defense (with more turnovers than assists).

You people that actually compare him to Jimmer are way off, his game resembles Mike Rose far more than Jimmer. Maybe at this point with utah basketball you just dont have anything else to defend.

For the record, shooting 33% from 3-point range is the point-per-shot equivalent of shooting 50% from 2-point range.

Hitting a third of your 3-point shots is OK if you otherwise are a solid contributor to the team.

It's no 41% or 45% (Emery and Jimmer) but it is however completely not respectable. To be fair I do like it when he puts those 3 fingers on his hip when he hits 1 out of 3 and makes that mean face and sticks out his tongue.

Henderson is going to be the guy that Y fans will love to hate. As a fan of the U, I love it.

While I understand your reasoning for saying 33% is ok,

its really a poor argument as to effectiveness on the basketball court. Here is why:
33% would rank you dead last (tied with Abouo) on BYU's team. (of those who have attempted at least 3 total shots). Also, in the NCAA, you would rank tied for 398-410th if you only made 33% from the 3 point line.

So in other words, your team would be better off if you passed the ball to someone who can hit a higher % than you. And if your team doesnt have anyone that shoots it better than you they are probably screwed anyway, so sure, keep chucking.

Don't take that as flattery Ute fans, the kid is an asshat with Terry Nashif talent. How can a kid that size not dribble penetrate better than that? He's a spot up 2 plain and simple and lacks the size to make a difference. It says something that he's about to break the "long-standing" record of Shaun Green from way back in 2005. I've seen a little of Henderson. He lacks the athleticism of some of the recent Utah County recruits, but he's got a decent shot. I expect him to raise that 33% shooting in future years, but I don't fear him like I would if he had some of the athleticism and broader skill set of our Utah County recruits.

I do not think Henderson will ever be good enough to truly hate.

Maybe pity is a better word. No one with that combination of arrogance and skill set deserves the dreaded "H" word.

Why would BYU fans hate him? I couldn't even tell you what number he wears!

I do think that if he continues to be the U starter there will be many Ute fans hating him in time. I have long felt he would be a Mike Rose type of contributor. I didn't hate Mike Rose, either.

Utah as a team shoots 32% from 3 point range and 49% from 2-point range on the season (for 44% overall FG percentage).

So a Marshall Henderson 3-point attempt at 33% is a more efficient shot than the average Ute shot attempt this season, (either the 49% 2-pointer or 31% 3-pointer from his teammates.) Sad but true.

Why is it sad? It's good perspective. It's also just simple math. 49% from 2 pt. isn't bad. It puts Henderson's threes and fg pct. in context.

I have a feeling Henderson will be a tremendous stud.

I agree. I don't understand why the BYU fans commenting on this thread are so obsessed with him.

Nothing else in regards to this Ute team to write home about really. "Stud" or not, if he weren't in a Ute uniform this colobus monkey would be mocked mercilessly for his incessant facial distortions and 66% missing percentage.
