Oh yes. If we can agree on anything it’s that Mike Lee is motivated by a burning desire for fairness. [emoji849]

**And I don’t agree with that in the workplace**

It is an interesting topic and it does deserve some bandwidth in the conversation, especially with the Olympic games hopefully getting back on track this summer. Now whether Mike Lee needs to be a part of that conversation is certainly debatable.

        Let the IOC figure that?

I don't think the IOC is going to determine what happens in high school sports or the NCAA.

This is an issue that has the potential to change women's competitive sports forever. I don't trust Mike Lee to lead any conversation of policy here, but its a topic that absolutely deserves the attention of all athletic governing bodies that have women competing in them, and just because someone is against transgender women competing against biological women does not mean that person is trans-phobic. My gut tells me Mike Lee is likely a bit trans-phobic, but having the conversation does not prove that he is, no matter how much I dislike him.

I don't disagree that it's an issue, but are we at the point yet that it deserves the attention of the United States Senate? If "transgender" weren't on the hashtag of this issue, Mike Lee wouldn't give a rat's ass about it.

It deserves the attention of the Senate when Title IX is being challenged, which it is in several states.

I'm not ambitious enough to google it, but my guess is that Mike Lee had never weighed in on Title IX before transgenders entered the conversation.

that is probably true and I don't want to come across as a Mike Lee defender, but there have not been a ton of recent title IX challenges apart from this issue.

Yeah, he blocked funding for a women's museum being built on the national mall. https://www.npr.org/2020/12/11/94538...womens-museums. It doesn't sound like it was for fiscal reasons either. Doubt he gives 1/10 of a shit about title IX

Lee also squashed legislation that would establish a national women's museum, an initiative that has also been years in the making. When Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine tried to get passage of the Smithsonian Women's History Museum Act, which also has bipartisan support, Lee once again voted no.

Collins called it "a sad moment."

"Surely in a year where we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage," she said, "this is the time, this is the moment to finally pass the legislation unanimously recommended by an independent commission to establish an American women's history museum in our nation's capital."

Lee said that, while he respected his colleagues' efforts and even shared "their interests in ensuring that these stories are told," he didn't believe women or Latinos deserved their own museums within the Smithsonian.
In a move that infuriated supporters of museums to be dedicated to Latinos and women on the National Mall, the Republican senator blocked legislation Thursday that would lead to the creation of both.

I totally understand why people don’t believe him here. He does not have a good track record on just about everything. I actually dislike that he has taken up this cause because of who he is and what opinions he generally espouses. People seeing Mike Lee attached to this does more harm than good because people will just chalk it up to another bigoted conservative stance on an LGBTQ issue.

I guess I bristle a bit on this issue because there are legitimate concerns with trans female athletes competing against biological female athletes and in some circles having that opinion is equal to bigotry hate speech.

I'm actually not in favor of any trans athlete being able to compete as the gender they were not assigned at birth, but there are some grey areas where individuals are intersex that give me pause in terms back an absolute restriction. But I would not be in favor of Moli going back in time and switching secret parts so he dominate at girls track events etc.
