"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

You realize it's going to be close, and he'll pull some shenanigans. I think that depends entirely on the non-deplorable wing of the GOP, and whether they decide to take back control of the party or not. One of the most disappointing things about the last four years has been the cowardice of so many on the right.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostI'm afraid this post won't age well, even though I hope it does. Mike Lee blocks bipartisan effort to establish Latino, women's museums.

I'd guess his dad would be pretty embarrassed by his son's "separate but equal museums for hyphenated identity groups" argument. The museums don't limit admission to the identified group, but rather encourage learning and understanding across the entire population about the struggles and progress of the group in question, bringing us together, not dividing us. Would he have vetoed funding for the Holocaust Museum?Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostMike Lee blocks bipartisan effort to establish Latino, women's museums.

Please don't infer that he might be racist. That would be so unfair. Also, I'm sure he's going to raise hell at any federal money/involvement in memorializing Mormon history.Originally posted by MartyFunkhouser View PostIt is a bullshit argument, but sadly some of his base is praising him for it.

I don't like it. First, because it comes from Mike Lee, who is a proven idiot. Secondly, because it eliminates individual country caps, which is good, but doesn't expand the overall quotas... which is bad. The waiting period for some categories of family based green cards for countries like Mexico is over 20 years. I see zero benefit to the visa quotas at all-- they just encourage border jumping and disregard for a system that is wildly unfair and uneven. Who cares if people that already are here or belong here with their families want to work in our economy? (Oh yeah I forgot they are all criminals and rapists)Originally posted by Eddie View PostCommando - what's your take on this Mike Lee bill?
All this bill would do is take the crazy Mexican/Chinese/Philippine backlog and spread it out for the rest of the countries to absorb. Good for Mexicans who have been waiting, but nobody stopped and asked 'Why TF are we even still bothering with these dumb ass quotas?'
The rest of the employment visa changes I don't care about."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

And I agree - completely. I didn't realize that it didn't expand quotas and only eliminated country caps. Which I'm assuming explains why Harris, with her Indian background, would support it as well.
Our immigration laws are a mess. This might be a tiny baby step in the right direction - but it sounds like it's pretty meaningless, all things considered.

Yeah it is really a baby step. I wouldn't want this construed as 'immigration reform' in any shape or form. Even worse, I wouldn't want this considered to be something that the GOP sees and thinks, "now you owe US one!" If this was tagged onto the DREAM Act I'd be fine with it. It really is a shrug, though. Eliminate the quotas, do a couple of other things that need attention, and now we're talking.Originally posted by Eddie View PostThanks for the response.
