    • Remember when future Trump supporters gave John Edwards shit about his $400 haircut? At least Edwards' trim looked good. Trump's tonsure is absurdly bad--that he's paid tens of thousand of dollars, supported by U.S. taxpayers, for that thing on his head adds yet another hilarious page to the Trump bio. The Trump University of hairdos.

Is it easier? Do the dems not know this?

          • I've never really played around on the FEC website before. Interesting to see how donations from BYU faculty and staff are distributed to different political parties.

There may be something to that rumor about BYU faculty being raging leftists after all...

I don't get the constant complaining about the EC. It is what it is. It's not changing without amending the Constitution (unless the Dems successfully pack the court and enough states sign on to that clearly unconstitutional state compact). You know, the Dems are just as capable of coming up with a strategy to win the same way the GOP does. Instead of complaining, adjust.

                • The easiest way to change the EC is to repeal the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929 and increase the number of Representatives. 700+ Representatives (roughly 1:500,000 people), or 1000 (1:350,000 people) +100 for Senators and however many for DC would do quite a bit towards fixing the claims that the EC is undemocratic.

                  No constitutional amendment required.

I'm sure they already do. But until they can convince a mass migration to a bunch of central states, they can't take advantage of the EC like the GOP is currently doing.

I'm complaining because in a more sane world it shouldn't be what it is. If a couple of generations from now democratic voters leave the most populous states and increase their proportion in the many smaller states the GOP now controls, and thereby winning like them, then it will still be a problem.

The problem is (and you know this), eliminating the EC gives those large population blue states much more power in electing the President at the expense of the more rural red states. The EC is designed to even things out and make candidates appeal to the whole country, not just the urban areas/states. Why aren't you concerned about the smaller states getting left behind?
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I like this, but it's gonna be harder to take them all out at once.

What was the proportion of the population living in larger populated states back then compared to lesser populated states compared to today? The answer to that question would go a long way toward answering whether the effect has actually gone too far toward giving way more power to smaller states than what they intended when it was set up. However, over time I think technology is going to send a lot more of the educated population into the lesser populated states which will probably even things out politically. It may take a decade or two to be noticeable though. It's already happening in western states like CO and AZ.
