Wait, you’re being serious? ‘Any lives’? You don’t see how limiting the interactions of people who are infectious will limit the spread of a virus with a known mortality rate? Of course it will save lives. It may be a problem again down the road when the restrictions are lifted, but exponential spread of the virus is happening now. Decrease the potential of infected people of infecting others now, and in a few weeks there will be less active spread.

    Perhaps this will help:

Lives will most definitely be saved in the coming weeks. I’ll leave it to others to decide if the economic hit will be worth it.

It’s like SU has not been following any of the basic epidemiologist explanations on what it means to flatten the curve. Remarkable.

Yeah, let’s just let all those old and unhealthy people die a little sooner. They were going to die anyway!

Funny that this is the response from Goldman Sachs. I love me some capitalism, but good hell.

SU, now go find us some medical experts that recommend against social distancing. You are the guy that always appeals to the experts. The experts have been unanimous.

This is what a renowned epidemiologist thinks of the UK herd immunity plan:

Vulnerable people should not be exposed to Covid-19 right now in the service of a hypothetical future, says William Hanage, a professor of the evolution and epidemiology of infectious disease at Harvard

When I first heard about this, I could not believe it. I research and teach the evolution and epidemiology of infectious disease at Harvard’s Chan School of Public Health. My colleagues here in the US, even as they are reeling from the stumbling response of the Donald Trump administration to the crisis, assumed that reports of the UK policy were satire – an example of the wry humour for which the country is famed. But they are all too real.
The UK should not be trying to create herd immunity, that will take care of itself. Policy should be directed at slowing the outbreak to a (more) manageable rate. What this looks like is strong social distancing.
This is a useless discussion. There is no way in hell the entire world (and that is what it would take) is going to say, "screw this - keep spending money and let people die". At this point you are basically an old man yelling at a cloud.

He did link Dr. Drew’s take. At least he’s getting some medical input.

Some of the people I know are braying something about Epstein, Hillary, and corona virus. If anyone else sees this and can tease out the logic of what they’re saying, I’d appreciate an explanation because I can’t follow it.

Dr. Drew has repeatedly said to do whatever Fauci recommends. And thus, as Fauci has come out and recommended social distancing, Dr. Drew is (slowly) changing his tune.

As is FOX News (in most cases). But it's still FOX News.

Korean Foreign Minister Kang on BBC.

The full interview is here. Well worth the 7-minute listen.

South Korean Foreign Minister: 'Testing central for early detection'

She totally blew the chance to mention Korea's excellent short track speed skating program.

I know that’s what he has said but he continued to double and triple down even when Dr. Fauci was ramping up the warnings. Dr. Drew commented either the day of or after the European travel ban was excessive. He’s gone silent from the media since. The more Dr. Fauci has ratcheted up the gloom and doom the last couple of days I’d have expected Dr. Drew to have publicly acknowledged this and told the nut jobs following him to pay attention.
