I knew that people can spread Coronavirus before they have symptoms, I didn't know that they can still spread it for a week or two after they recover. This is what was new to me:
Among patients who survived the disease, the virus continued to be shed for between eight and 37 days.

The parents of a student of mine live in a Beijing apartment tower and, as is the case with a vast number of other buildings, a doorman takes the temperature of people coming into or leaving the building. If they're feverish, they're quarantined.

Aaaaand now 83% of the NWC family is directly affected by COVID-19. K-12 school has been cancelled for next week, and likely a couple of days after next week's spring break. Community college is automatically shut down the week after spring break. And Mrs. NWC won't be working next week at middle school.

          Vacation! But not for me

We had tickets to the new Edge observation deck at Hudson Yards for this morning. They closed it last night because it is deemed a gathering space under Cuomo's new executive order. This virus is really affecting my life!

A big difference between flu and coronavirus (besides available flu shots) is that no one has built up an immunity to this thing, or inherited an immunity to it. One of the reasons why the transmission rate is so high. I dont fear 1000 deaths across the US in the next 2 months, I fear that 10,000 people in SLC will get sick all at the same time. I'm terrified that there are only like, 37 ventilators in the entire county, and a doc will look at me, gasping and wheezing, and decide to give the ventilator to a 21 year old. Or even if I'm lucky enough to get a ventilator, because it is being used day and night, and not sterilized very well. They say a lot of people in China died from infected ventilators.

How do you die from an infected ventilator? If you are using the ventilator, you already have the virus, no?

If the ventilator is supposed to be breathing for me, and it is recirculating moldy air or mersa or coronavirus back into my lungs when my antibodies are supposed to be fighting them...

If I have to go, may as well be before my term life insurance gets prohibitively expensive. Family will be taken care of at least.

                          Gotcha.

Don't worry about it. You won't get one anyway.

Read the Medium article that was posted here. China had already had the lockdown in place when it was at the point that the US is currently at.

The UK intends to build a wall of immunity. Its unorthodox approach is to carryon while admonishing people to take precautions as to the most vulnerable. Maybe they'll emerge with the lowest deaths rate and strongest economy. Time will tell.

The U.K. government is battling criticism of a coronavirus plan that blends blunt talk of the pandemic’s toll with modest steps that fall far short of measures taken in other countries.

The UK is betting the overall death rate is way overstated because we don't know who has it and the younger part of the population will kill the infection. Maybe it's possible to be more strategic given that intolerable death rates are concentrated in one part of the demographic.
