I appreciate your enthusiasm, but we have limited options. How does one successfully, while limiting risk, support mass demonstrators topple their government? The situation on the ground is pretty fluid and we likely don't have a super clear picture. I wonder how cooperative our "allies" in the region are being. They would have to deal with the negative results if any action we take is not successful, or even misguided, so they are likely cautious. Do we take out leadership? If so, how? And who do you take out? Will that lead to more desperate and violent actions against the demonstrators? As in VeneSuela, there are people on the Ayatollah side ready to step in and fill leadership roles should the people above them get taken out. These and other factors/questions are likely affecting decision-making.

It's unfortunate there isn't an active insurgency that we could support.

I find it hard to believe there is not some white-paper case study on how to topple Iran in certain situations. Having tendencies plans in place for such things is beneficial to our strategies. Yes, I would prefer the killing of Iran leadership and funneling money or arms to help support the revolution. Without boots on the ground. My opinion on action is based on the fact Trump opened his fucking mouth and blew smoke. He elevated their spirits which increased more deaths and protesting. I hope he doesn’t sleep well from all that should weigh on him. For him to now step back and walk away. He’s like that little-shit instigator that stirs the pot and backs away to watch the other two fight.

He would have been better off not saying a word then what he did. I rarely want to hear him speak. He’s a fucking blowhard. He has the balls to bomb them before. He should have made moves earlier to get them to stop well before the loss of likely over 20K Iranians who saw a shimmer of hope and light to have it distinguished by a coward who never gave a shit in the first place.

Trump ran on not doing the Reagan era Cold War intervention, which were often proxy wars and already seems to be overstepping while scuttling our alliances. Not only does he lack a moral backbone he isn't a great thinker and is easily influenced by his amoral cabinet.

I think even the rhetoric forces Iran to react and be concerned. That takes resources that could be being used on protestors and at a minimum either ties them up being preoccupied with US activities or forces them to keep them in some type of reserve or protection of high payoff targets.

Without boots on the ground there really are limited options for the US to help Iranians overthrow the Mullahs. Even if we acted on Trump's threats it will just be bombing high payoff targets, and mostly will be more about Israel's intent to further neuter the Regime to make it less effective for when this round of protests settles down and Iran returns to being Iran. I guess you could nail some IRGC barracks but the killing of protesters is being down with small arms and the front is fluid and full of both enemies, those we would want to kill and non-combatants. I don't think that is something that can effectively be done from fighter jets and bombers. I am sorry Trump's rhetoric upsets you. My advice is to move into the indifference/ignore stage. Iranians must help Iran. What should really scare us all is what if Iran really falls and we are left with Trump speaking for/representing the Free World in a the formation of a post-Islamic Republic Persia. I may be wrong but I think we might be able to get Frank Ryan to even comment about Trump and his concern for that scenario.
