Nice tone deaf response. Incredible she wasn't elected.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Hillary is well-informed on this issue after being under sniper fire many years back.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
So he did have some "bump-stock" devices on these guns. The WSJ Journal article I read earlier was either inaccurate, or this Time article doesn't mention any automatic weapons that weren't modified. Apparently these devices are legal which seems totally insane to me.

She's particularly well-informed on silencers. Since those snipers were using silencers and NO ONE could hear the shots - they weren't even picked up on camera!
Looks like they were probably using those older versions of silencers that Topper referred to - since no one was hit, it stands to reason that the silencers were messing with the accuracy of the shooter.
I was just pointing out that the title of the thread was factually incorrect. MSNBC has it right. They've been reporting this as the largest mass shooting "in modern history."
I'd also like to say that I am offended by the personal insults hurled in my direction (e.g., with regard to my degrees or how "smart" I think I am) or being compared with a mass shooter. This stuff should be totally out of bounds.
I show restraint with regard to personal insults.
I do my job. I work hard and I'm successful. But I do say what I genuinely think about the world and do not deserve personal insults. Some of you are incredibly rude people and I expect an apology.
Unless it has to do with the deeply held religious beliefs of 95% of the board. Then you just paint with broad strokes.
Here's an instructive video on a bump-stock in an AR 15

The "worst mass shooting in U.S. history" line that appear in headlines and lead paragraphs is obvious and inevitable, but I hate it as I fear it provides an incentive to the deranged to beat the record. I remember when Charles Whitman held the record for a very long time, but with Newtown, Orlando and now this one has to be worried about the trend.

I'm not expecting anything in the way of legislation to address this problem. After Sandy Hook I realized nothing was ever going to happen.
A guy from our area who was at the concert was speaking to a local radio talk show host this morning and was asked the same question. He said that Vegas has lots of gun shows and it's not unusual for guys to carry in lots of gun cases. There's apparently a big show this weekend. In fact, there are three over the next five weeks. Excellent timing for the exhibitors.
Watching on my phone in bed last night, I took this screen shot immediately after the first briefing from Metro. I missed the sergeant standing in front of the billboard, but did catch the reporter stepping into the frame right after. Seemed...interesting.

The main reason nothing is going to happen is that too many Americans love their guns. They think guns are great. And they don't care quite as much what happens to other people as long as they get to have their gun toys.

Guns are great. I love to go shooting. I'll be headed out to do some more shooting later this week.
Now - killers are not so great. I don't love them.
So - how do we balance people like me - who don't shoot people - getting to keep having fun shooting guns with getting guns away from people like the crazy guy in Vegas?

Unfortunately, if you really want to do something about it, the needle will have to move against decent people like you. It is as much of a cultural impasse as it is a political one. Guns have to decrease, and regulations getting one have to become stricter. It will take at least a generation of stringent gun control laws before we see improvement, IMO.
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."
