I was just pointing out that the title of the thread was factually incorrect. MSNBC has it right. They've been reporting this as the largest mass shooting "in modern history."

I'd also like to say that I am offended by the personal insults hurled in my direction (e.g., with regard to my degrees or how "smart" I think I am) or being compared with a mass shooter. This stuff should be totally out of bounds.

I show restraint with regard to personal insults.

I do my job. I work hard and I'm successful. But I do say what I genuinely think about the world and do not deserve personal insults. Some of you are incredibly rude people and I expect an apology.

        Huh?!?

"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Actually if he had a suppressor/silencer that might have helped. He may have burned his hand trying to remove it to put it on the next gun.

                    http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-las...htmlstory.html

CBS Corp. fired a vice president in business affairs Monday for comments she made on social media regarding the mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas.

Hayley Geftman-Gold, wrote on her Facebook page that she was not sympathetic to victims of the shooting because, she claimed, most country music fans are Republican.

Geftman-Gold also wrote: “If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing. I’m actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are Republican gun toters.”

                    • I'm surprised the dummy had the restraint to not take it a step further, seeing how the gunman is a Mesquite retiree...

                          Lol.

You'll need to work harder on your victimhood status. New shtick for you, but hey, a brother can alter his ways.

Lots of problems with that theory. The range of your firing diminishes significantly with a sound suppressor, and given the height from which he shot, many victims may have actually been saved if he had used a sound suppressor. And if I remember correctly, you might also lose the sound suppression after a large series of shots. But leave it to somebody who knows little about guns to lay claim to how they work and function.

                            • common myth, but suppresses don't affect range. her argument is dumb though.

Modern suppressors don't. You're right. Never wanted one so I hadn't looked into them. The older suppressors did slow the bullet.

                                http://www.accurateshooter.com/gear-...-need-to-know/

Historically, suppressors had rubber baffles that slowed down the bullets and ruined accuracy. Modern suppressors don’t have any of these drawbacks. While you’ll find competing viewpoints as to whether a suppressor-equipped rifle is more inherently accurate than a rifle with a bare muzzle (or muzzle brake), in practice many shooters shoot better with a suppressed rifle due to psychological and physiological factors — call it “shootability”. With less noise, less barrel hop, and less felt recoil — thanks to the suppressor — many shooters can achieve greater accuracy, shot after shot.

In the last few years, the use of suppressors by competitors has gone from an oddity to being commonplace. At recent matches such as the 2010 Steel Safari, as many as half of the top ten competitors used suppressors.
Here is a test that shows muzzle velocity actually increased with a suppressor. Not sure how that happens, but wow.
                                http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2...ting-velocity/
The difference was somewhat negligible being an average of all calibers (including the .223 which actually decreased by 11FPS within the 5 tested rounds) of 13FPS increase. If you were to leave out the .223 which threw a wrench in the test the average increase would be 18 FPS. Still, hardly enough to come into play until you reach several hundred yards out. But it does prove that a suppressor will increase velocity and not decrease it.

The velocity results, mostly measured with 5 rounds without a suppressor, 5 rounds with:
