no good solutions to the guns issue. there simply isn't. kinda reminds me of health care. there is obviously a problem, but nobody can come up with a decent solution. probably because there isn't one.

the two biggest problems with gun control as I see it.

1) guns last a long damn time.

2) the good guys will abide by the gun laws, the bad guys won't and the result of that is scary as hell.

Are there any reliable statistics on how often a private citizen's firearm PREVENTS a crime (robbery, home invasion, etc)? Taking mass shootings, armed robberies, living in SE Chigaco, etc out of the equation. I would be curious for a comparison of how many accidental shootings and suicides are caused from easy access to guns, versus how much crime they actually prevent?

If you believe the following guns each year are used over 80x more often to protect a life than to take one... The source of that claim must be buried down in the small print at the bottom which I haven't taken the time to verify. I don't think the information about the town in Georgia is correct, however.




And then there is graph which seems to indicate that the more guns that everyone has (on average) the less gun homicides there will be...




Maybe if we can get everyone to buy 10 guns each or so then the gun homicide rate will be reduced to something below 1 per 100k?

Here is my take on guns, in bullet points (get it?):

- I own lots of guns and I enjoy hunting. Shot a nice buck last night.
- Guns do not protect us from the government. Don't kid yourself.
- Guns do not make us safer
- Guns do not lower crime
- Guns make it easier to commit suicide
- Mass shootings are a tiny fraction of gun deaths
- The most lethal guns are handguns
- Most gun control measures that people promote would do almost nothing to reduce gun violence.
- The only thing that would measurably impact gun violence would be a repeal of the 2nd amendment and confiscation of guns
- There is no way we have the political will to repeal the 2nd amendment. Too ingrained in American culture.
- Confiscating weapons would take decades and would be a disaster.
