I'm defending because they aren't using the military against average folks. They are using them against criminals and agitators, agitators who interrupt federal employees who are doing their jobs. If the mayors and governors of these areas did their jobs, intervention would be unnecessary.

I'm also against playing politics with the military by trying to institute whatever the latest social engineering fad is into their processes and culture. They are there to fight real wars, not the culture war.

frank's statement is demonstrably false and a borderline personal attack.

Sometimes I yearn for the days when uncle Ted would double, triple, and quadruple down on some stupid MAGA argument just to get the board going...and then I'd talk with him and confirm it was mostly just top-level trolling. The guy was a master at it.
Ted is/was fun. Miss that guy.

I had a good visit with him a month ago. He is doing great.

For many reasons, I think eating lunch with that guy would be fun.

It wasn't meant as an attack but I can't recall Shaka ever having significant criticism with Trump. Can you?

Im a bit unsure how that is an attack?

Well, local leaders would say they are doing their jobs and have opposed the imposition of the military into their jurisdictions, however temporary it is. They are serving their local constituencies, and those constituents can vote them out if they are not happy.

As for social engineering through the military, integration in the military was a leading driver in providing equal rights and access to Americans of every race and color and integration in our society. We should want our military to have the best and brightest from every walk of American life.

              One of falafel's relatives?

              Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

He actually goes out of his way to point out when he disagrees with Trump ("bad Trump!"). I am sure in part as a response to you and others badgering him like you did here.

                • JD Vance was asked about the racist memes posted by Trump with Hakeem Jeffries wearing a sombrero and cartoon mustache, meaning he was dressed up to "court" latino voters.

JD Vance, who has the current most-punchable face in DC, said that he thought the memes were "funny" and when asked if they were racist like Jefferies said, his response was "I honestly don't even know what that means."

Then what were you laughing at JD? Just cracking up whenever Trump posts a meme? Can you IMAGINE being the VP of the United States of American and being forced to answer questions about the Leader of the Free World posting stupid memes about his political opponents?

I think my statement was pretty pedestrian.

I genuinely can't remember him doing that. He's admittedly done plenty of trolling and has thrown some jabs my way.

I think Shaka's a good human, but we definitely differ on politics.

Shaka has posted "Bad Trump!" several times, but it's definitely unclear what he means by that. It's not something that always indicates genuine disagreement with Trump, as evidenced by the clear sarcasm here:

                      • Are you paying attention, Shaka? Your disagreements with Trump have to be strong, unequivocal, and delivered without a hint of tongue-in-cheek. If you can't do that, you will face the wrath of the board.

You can be as glib as you want about it, but the fact remains that it's not entirely clear what Shaka means when he uses that phrase. But go on ahead and continue to scold frank for not jumping into Shaka's head and recognizing when Shaka's criticism of Trump is legit and when it's sarcastic.

I have been following it all day, and obviously before that. I admit I am pre-disposed to think that the Trump admin is the problem, but after consuming about as much as I can stand (including interviews with congressmen and senators), I am not sure what the democrats are doing here. The fact that this is a "clean" CR for 7 weeks is going to prevent a lot of people from supporting this move.

That's the only thing I have against Ted, tbh. He was asked by multiple people, over and over, to stop, but he just continued to poke various bears. Not to mention the wolverines, bobcats, squirrels, field mice, and the incidental insect.

Ted is undoubtedly highly intelligent, funny, kind, and a great family man. Yet, for some reason, he feels compelled to unrepentantly and constantly stir up hornets nests over charged political issues among a community of people he has known and engaged with for more than a decade.

It is the one head-scratcher for me.

                              Cue JL's response in 3, 2, 1...
