Government shutdown. Apparently it's the democrats fault. I don't think that spin is going to ultimately work for the Republicans when they have both houses of Congress and should be able to pass something on their own if they really wanted. At least it won't work on independents. Then it doesn't help when Trump says things like government shutdowns are good.
During his first term Trump hit his worst approval rating toward the end of the 35 day shutdown. After Jan 6th it was worse, but until that point his lowest popularity was toward the end of those 35 days. Currently he's ten points underwater which is already the biggest gap between approve and disapprove he's had during this term. The range of his approve/dissaprove has been tight -- it's been about a six to 10 point spread almost the entire time, but 10 points is the bottom end of it so far. The effects of tye shutdown obviously haven't hit yet other than the fear of it for some people, so it will be interesting to see if it moves it.
