I'm skeptical of Pam Bondi's honesty here.
Zero accountability for Trump
5th avenue voter syndrome. Epstein had stated he was Trump's best friend. Trump was weird when asked about Ghislaine Maxwell's criminal charges and gave an uncharacteristically cordial response, "I wish her well."
He said he wouldn't release all the Epstein files because they would sully the names of people who weren't guilty.
The justice department slow walks this and now state there's nothing there.
He can do whatever he wants and MAGA will believe him.

It's so gross that this has to be a fear but it does.Originally posted by RC Vikings View Post
My daughter in law is Peruvian, I think she was sponsored by a family and came in under asylum, she has a ITIN number and works at the front desk for a hotel in MIdvale. She has a drivers licence, she pays taxes and she is working on getting a green card. They have a little one year old daughter, there is some real stress in their family about her being sent back to Peru. I worry about her getting a simple traffic ticket and being sent to Alligator Alcatraz and then back to Peru. I hate this current administration.

I don't mean to be insensitive, but what happened to the old idea that marrying a U.S. citizen granted the spouse citizenship? Or is that only if you come in through the 90-Day Fiance route?Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.
Dig your own grave, and save!

I don't know that it was ever the case that marrying a US citizen granted citizenship. Maybe it was the case pre-1924 before the Immigration Act became law? Even the War Brides Act in the 1940s just allowed for the immigration of spouses of US soldiers into the US and gave them a green card but didn't automatically make them citizens. There was something like 50K+ "war brides" from WWII and then more from the Korean war in the 50s.Originally posted by falafel View Post

Marrying a US citizen makes one eligible to apply for a green card which, if it's issued, would grant permanent resident status. If you've only been married for less than 2 years, the green card is conditional. But permanent residents are subject to deportation for a variety of reason such as criminal acts or fraudulent applications (e.g. if the marriage was a sham) or if the green card expires and is not renewed or if the person leaves the USA and doesn't return by some deadline. If a green card is revoked the person is subject to deportation.
I have a family member that married a non-citizen and had to get their congressman involved in the green card process because the government agencies were stalling on it. Congressman wrote a letter to whatever agency it was and tried to push things along. That was over a decade ago. I imagine the process and bureaucratic machinery is even worse now. The spouse became a citizen just a year or so ago.

Well, we can take solace in the fact that as she is taken off to a concentration camp in handcuffs, an innumerable number of MAGAbots will shout "I VOTED FOR THIS!" at the top of their lungs.Originally posted by RC Vikings View Post

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

It’s sad how many cruelly and ignorantly cheer this on. So much confidence that it’s “only criminals” or off hand comments like “what do you think temporary means?” Like one was simply swatting away a fly. Most likely it’s an indictment of one’s insularity that they don’t know or interact positively with anyone affected.Originally posted by RC Vikings View Post

After her sophomore year Mrs. NWC reentered the US on a fiancee visa. As I recall it wasn't terribly hard to get 32 years ago, but once she had it she couldn't leave the country for a year I think, when we had to prove to immigration that our union was legit.Originally posted by falafel View Post

Going off on a related tangent, my opinion of US immigration is jaded by our experience. We did everything by the book and yet there were still a couple of times that by ignorance she could have lost her permanent residency. The first time was when we moved to Montreal for med school. About a year in a similarly situated US student told Mrs. NWC that living out of the country for a while on a PR was not kosher. She called up the help line at the time, and she was assured that as long as she was accompanying me on my Canadian student visa and we were returning there would be no problem. Relieved, she set that aside until a couple of years later someone told her no really US immigration is going to have a problem with her trying to return to the states. This time when she called the person said, Um, yeah we have a problem and unfortunately you don't have time to reapply for PR before your expected return. Thank goodness this was before widespread computer use, so when she did reenter the states with her PR card she didn't get flagged.
A few years later when she was reapplying for her PR she was forced to play dumb and hope for the best. When the official saw that she lived in Canada for 4 years he couldn't OK that. She half-lied and told him that when she called immigration they said she was good to go. She was sweating bullets when the official left the room to go review with his supervisor, who thankfully gave the OK. But even then there was a risk that she with 2 kids and pregnant with a third would have to potentially leave the country and reapply for permanent residency. In this current climate, were her skin a little darker and her English not so good, you'd be a fool to bet against that scenario.

Conditions at the DeSantis Florida Everglades Concentration Camp are as bad as you might expect.

Maggots in the single meal a day. Lack of access to medical care. State officials lying about the medical problems faced by the prisoners. Denied access to their attorneys and their family.
It's a concentration camp.

Reason number 100 to impeach him, or at the very least, for the GOP to grow a pair and assert their tariff authority.
