    National Review summary of debate:

The media are always biased against the Republican, as Trump knew when he agreed to an ABC-moderated debate. That wasn’t the main problem last night.

You know who cares about the notorious bias of the media-Democrat complex? Conservatives. You know who was not the relevant, target audience for last night’s debate between presidential candidates? Conservatives.

If you’re obsessing over how bad, how in the tank for Kamala Harris, the two ABC news moderators were, it’s because you don’t want to come to grips with the brute fact that Donald Trump was a disaster last night. He was unhinged, often incoherent, incapable of completing thoughts and sentences when he had points to make, and led into self-absorbed rabbit-holes — claims that he won the 2020 election, the size of his rallies, whether “migrants” are eating stolen pets — that diverted him from opportunity after opportunity to expose Harris as a radical leftist now pretending to be a pragmatic centrist who suddenly loves her some guns.
Trump had one job: stay on message about Harris’s dizzying renunciations of her positions — so inexplicable that Harris has dribbled them out through nameless campaign sources rather than addressed them in her own voice. All he needed to do was reduce to the punchline it deserves to be her claim that her “values” have never changed. It is simply impossible to maintain an immutable core while ushering millions of illegal aliens into the country on one day then posing the next as a border hawk; while casting the deciding vote on legislation that spiked inflation to 40-year highs on one day, then posing the next as a champion of financially battered families; while defunding the police and bailing out riotous criminals on one day, then posing the next as the tough-minded law-and-order prosecutor; while enriching Iran and making common with its pro-Hamas agitators one day, then posing the next as a staunch defender of Israel.

Trump couldn’t do it. And yes, that’s largely because he is an undisciplined solipsist so effortlessly drawn into railing about rally attendance when the subject at hand is Harris’s indefensible border record — and if you think last night’s target audience cares whether the interlocutor steering Trump off course was Harris or the moderators, then you’re missing the point.

Indeed. I will be fair and say that sure, ABC could have probed more on her obvious flip flop on fracking, and could have asked questions about what she thinks will happen with inflation with her economic policies. But by and large they played it pretty close to the middle. And according to the NYT, they gave Trump 6 whole minutes more talking time.

Trump has no one but himself to blame for that disaster of a debate.

Here's some major levels of cope from Fox News. I love the little tid bit at the end about illegal aliens already voting:

"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

I want moderators that will go hard at both candidates equally. Can we find some of those on any of the channels? Like I'd like 2-3 folks that have BS detectors on red alert both ways.

I want a moderator who just asks questions and keeps the participants within time limits. It should NOT be their job to police the answers.

He has lied with relative impunity for four years. It is time someone fact checked everything he said. It is what was necessary. If they didn't, after the fact he could simply say: "I mis-spoke", I am being quoted out of context", or further lie and say: "that's not what I said."

Failure to understand this is concerning.

You don't want a moderator, you want a computer program.

Are you equally upset that she wasn't fact checked at all? I was looking for that part in your answer and didn't find it. I even did the highlight thing to see if you hid it like Clack does sometimes....

No, I am not precisely because Trump's lies have sowed divisiveness on a level unimaginable in my life time.

Serious question: if it turned out that going by percentages, they were both fact-checked the same in relation to the number of "opportunities" for fact-checking they provided, would that be acceptable?

Some debates have done fact-checking. It's not a new invention. Doesn't bother me a great deal. Of course, it could've taken the entire time because every the humble, pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstaps businessman spoke untruth fell out.

I expect some of the other debates won't do this

It's quite possible that he is a great deal more dishonest. He wasn't, yet again been excessively picked on by the media. And some his lies were gargantuan. His lies about winning the election and what happened on J6 are quite problematic. Trump is not the product of being treated unfairly.

I have this crazy notion that a moderator should, … you know … moderate the debate. Not be a participant in the debate.
