  • Does anyone really think Jesus would be okay with treating these people this way? Nice to see this statement. So many loud-mouthed "Christians" seemed to have ripped out The Beatitudes from their Bibles.

    • Our Chief racist is refusing to apologize for his position on The Central Park 5.

Donald Trump has refused to apologise for saying the Central Park Five should be executed, 17 years after they were exonerated with DNA evidence.

The president was asked about the case on Tuesday, in light of Ava DuVernay’s four-part Netflix series about the 1989 case.

“You have people on both sides of that. They admitted their guilt,” Mr Trump said after a reporter asked him whether he would apologise to the five men.

Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson Antron McCray, Yusef Salaam and Korey Wise, five black and Latino teenagers, were convicted of attacking 28-year-old white female jogger Trisha Meili, who was raped and beaten almost to death during a run in Central Park on 19 April, 1989.

Authorities vacated their convictions in 2002, after convicted murderer and serial rapist Matias Reyes confessed to the attack and said he had committed it alone. DNA evidence backed up his confession.

In 2014, the City of New York settled a wrongful conviction lawsuit with the five men for $41m.

During the case, Mr Trump spent an estimated $85,000 to take out four full-page ads in four New York City newspapers, proclaiming in bold letters: “BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY. BRING BACK OUR POLICE!”

“I want to hate these murderers and I always will,” the ad reads in part. ”I am not looking to psychoanalyse or understand them, I am looking to punish them.”

The five convicted men have said their confessions were coerced, as portrayed in DuVernay’s series, which premiered on Netflix in May and brought renewed attention to the case.

Linda Fairstein, who headed Manhattan’s sex crimes unit at the time, has long been criticised for her role in the suspects’ interrogation.

Fairstein has stood by the investigation and maintained that the men’s confessions were not forced. Fairstein has also criticised DuVernay’s series and her portrayal in the TV programme.

On Tuesday, Mr Trump referenced Fairstein.

Fallout from the Netflix show has led to the former New York City prosecutor, who is also an author, being dropped by her book publisher, Dutton.

Fairstein also resigned as a Board of Trustees member at Vassar College and from the victims-services agency, Safe Horizon.

Now maybe Drumpf should threaten the Dems with tariffs to get them to do something other than to talk about impeachment all day.

BTW, I wonder how much assistance the CoJCotLDS provides for these poor immigrants to help keep their families together?

No... I would think that Jesus, the Lord of the old testament, would have wiped the evil government that is driving these people out of their homes off the face of the Earth by now. Maybe He is expecting the people of His choice land to rise up and do it. That and take control of their oil reserves.

No, you are too kind... I am actually having a hard time finding what the CoJCotLDS is doing to help with the immigration problem other than releasing a statement that might only raise questions about their political neutrality and non-profit status. Here in Texas the Tribune compiled what they believe is an exhaustive list of charities providing aid for these poor immigrants. (If you believe one was missed you can send it to asamuels@texastribune.org as noted in the article.) Apparently the CoJCotLDS efforts in Texas didn't even get $7,500 like in Arizona and we don't have Welcome Center.

So you have no idea what The Church is doing in terms of support.

              The Internet has failed you.

              • Nazi comparison Twitter is the best Twitter. I learned yesterday, mostly thanks to frank Ryan’s political idols, that nazis didn’t put Jews into concentration camps. Instead they used death camps. Trump is putting Brown people into concentration camps, which is just as bad as what the nazis did even though the nazis didn’t use concentration camps. I also learned that a US army base is as bad as a concentration camp and it would be better if we just let all the detainees go so they could walk into the US without any issue.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

what political idols would that be? sounds like you don't have much of an issue with the detainee camps and the family separation, just unfair criticism of poor king Trump.

The Church is doing about the same the Dems are doing about the problem... Only bitching about it and providing little in the way of actual support or even offering ideas to help with the problem.

It seems Drumpf's actions, however, are yielding some relief in the human trafficking problem:
Government moves to block accounts, seize assets of migrant smugglers
Criminal charges will be filed against owners of trucks caught carrying over 700 migrants on Saturday
                      [...]
Santiago Nieto noted that 26 people allegedly involved in the trafficking of migrants have already been reported to the FGR and had their bank accounts frozen, adding that “today a new [criminal complaint] will be presented in relation to the case we saw in Veracruz.”

He described the conditions in which the migrants were transported as “practically subhuman” and pledged that those responsible will have their bank accounts blocked and face criminal charges.
                      [...]

Of course, Drumpf is a Nazi. Ask Frank.

I guess the price of being held in King Drumpf's death detainee camps and having their babies ripped from their arms must be worth it to the 100,000's of people that do it.

I take it that the church is indirectly criticizing the Dems...

...While we recognize the right of all nations to enforce their laws and secure their borders, we encourage our national leaders to take swift action to correct this situation...
They are currently the party of obstruction that don't want to take any kind of action (swift or not so swift) to correct the situation. They are swift to bitch about the situation, so I'll give them that.

There have been immigration related bills passed in the House. But does it matter what the House passes right now while McConnell is on permanent vacation/retirement? the government is broken. Just blow it up and name Trump the supreme dictator for life. problem solved.

No kidding! It is great to treat these guys like dirt since they are coming from an even worse situation.

You sound like those Bush supporters who defended the situation in Iraq by claiming things were better off than they were under Saddam. Now there's a high bar.
