It's perf. Trump gets the war with Iran everyone seems to want and John McCain plays a crucial part in starting it!You're actually pretty funny when you aren't being a complete a-hole....so basically like 5% of the time. --Art Vandelay
Almost everything you post is snarky, smug, condescending, or just downright mean-spirited. --Jeffrey Lebowski
Anyone can make war, but only the most courageous can make peace. --President Donald J. Trump

Trump has turned the whole issue on its head. Big labor and the likes of Chuck Schumer support the tariffs. Trump republicans, who never would have supported tariffs 3 years ago, now seem to be on board. There is too much support in both parties for congress to do anything.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostYou’re not wrong, but I think the House would rein him in if it were their sole discretion. Pointless to try otherwise aside from symbolic reasons.

This is all well and good for Trump until the increasing tariffs become too much for the economy to continue to absorb and it goes toward recession. And the Mexican tariffs threat comes before he's even finished patting himself on the back for amending NAFTA, which is kind of funny because it's typical of his nonsense.Originally posted by wapiti View PostTrump has turned the whole issue on its head. Also, just calling this a threat is probably selling it short. The way this "decree" is written gives himself alone 100% discretion on when to lessen or remove them without any objective measures to judge if Mexico has done enough. The fact Trump likes tariffs and actually believes they are good regardless of the situation probably means they are not coming off while he's in office. But this is where his faulty view of how trade works is eventually going to come back to bite him when the economy starts to tank when it finally can't absorb it anymore.
I think he's already more vulnerable in the upcoming election than most probably do, primarily because where his numbers are down the most is in places like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin where he won by razor thin margins last time. Add Iowa to that now which he won somewhat comfortably last time but appears to be extremely close or leaning democrat now. It's hard to separate the negative impact of the tariffs on the farm economy of those states from the downturn in his polling there. And he can't win reelection without those states because he hasn't gained ground in any state he lost last time, no matter how much the people in places like Alabama or Wyoming might like him.Last edited by BlueK; 06-04-2019, 01:11 PM.

This actually might be the one thing that senate Republicans push back on. They're scared of hurting the economy.Originally posted by wapiti View PostTrump has turned the whole issue on its head. Sadly this administration just doesn't really view these as real people, as evidenced by the way its policies have treated them.Originally posted by Commando View PostBetter cut out that expensive soccer for unaccompanied minors played out in the dirt courtyard!Last edited by BlueK; 06-06-2019, 11:31 AM.

I used to just wish Trump would go back to the Apprentice. Now I think Karma will demand he spend some hard time in a federal pen.Originally posted by BlueK View PostSadly this administration just doesn't really view these as real people, as evidenced by the way its policies have treated them."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch!
