No, it does not constitute a mandate. It expresses a general common sense sentiment."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Look, its clear, now, what you meant, but the words you put in her mouth meant something else. I agreed your initial proposed answer was certainly vastly superior to what she actually said, but it is not, in the mouth of a proposed secty of ed., the best formulation of what you apparently meant. You, of course, think you got it just right. I don't. I am sure the reading public can make up their own minds.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostNo, it does not constitute a mandate. If she is asked about the policy and she says "I think we can all agree that we don't want guns at schools. But how that gets accomplished should be a matter for the states, not the federal government" her statement expresses a mandated result (guns banned from schools) but allows for alternate mechanisms to achieve that result. That policy should not be required by the federal government. End of story. Your re-statement is better but it is not the same as the words you put in her mouth in your prior post. One of my favorite CS themes is the parsing of words.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostNo, it does not constitute a mandate. I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

Conversely, people often assume implied meanings should be universally clear even if the words don't state them.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View PostI don't disagree.
I try to be straightforward and say things in as few words as possible. (That's the goal.) I find that people don't take words at face value. They want to fill in gaps and extrapolate meaning.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Variety's Inauguration Issue looks to be pretty good. I read the Glenn Beck and Michael Moore interviews and enjoyed them both. Looks like they have interviewed a good cross section of people and I plan on reading them all.

If you're cynical about politics, as most of us are now, the inevitable fight between Trump and his own party in congress, which should start within days of the inauguration will be quite entertaining. Replace what we have now with even more universal health care? Yeah, right.
