  • For the countries sake I wish the dems would quit playing games with Trumps nominees. I understand the republicans did it and so I guess you can say payback is a bitch. I will note Sessions voted in favor of Holder and all this talk about the AG needs to be independent is curious having seen both Holder and his successor never question the Presidents executive orders, some of which were overturned by the court.

I just watched the presser given by General Kelly. Fox carried the whole thing and MSNBC and CNN cut away to their talking heads. Beings I really like Gen. Kelly, their cutting away enforces my thoughts he was really good. Lots of false reporting by the press, unless of ourse you think Gen. Kelly is a liar.

I don't know the word to use for Trump, but right now I would call him chaotic. That is NOT goodl. I think Pettis (sp), Kelly and the CIA director are solid and people I trust more than Trump sad to say. I would like his whole cabinet to get in and be a check on Trump and Banon and whoever.

Maybe the Republicans should just invoke the nuclear option now while waiting for Trump to announce his supreme court pick. This would save a lot of time.

Yea, things never stay the same. I doubt the republicans or democrats will ever get 60 votes in the Senate where they have a big disagreement or are playing politics.

This is the republican and democrat parties of the past. They both worry about the radicals in their parties.

        • I confess I'm kind of enjoying Trump's approach to naming his Supreme Court nominee. Rather than treat the position with the dignity it deserves, he's handling it like the last episode of The Bachelor or, I guess, The Apprentice. Even though he has said he has made up his mind. He's invited the finalists to D.C. and will announce THE WINNER tonight on prime time television. I'm hoping he'll give a rose to the nominee, while telling the other that he's, well, you know... Meanwhile, I heard Spicer crowing about how national interest in the nomination is at fever pitch with FB posts at an alltime high.

I've begun to regard Trump as the new Charlie the Tuna (you youngsters may not remember that old commercial) who surrounds himself with what he perceives are the trappings of class and good taste, but beneath that very thin veneer his core is amoral, petty and cheap.

Yeah, but this could all be another Trumpian feint. I don't know whose team I'm on here. Hardiman is pretty dreamy.

All those snowflakes protesting at the california airports would most likely melt if they studied a little history of their current governor and recent vice president. Republicans and democrats are the same sh*t, different days.
Flashback! Some democrats owned slaves in the 1800s!

1975 and the Viet Nam War were a long time ago.

Not really. These are some of the same people still in politics. Moreover, AMerica had very direct responsibility for the Southeast Asian refugees.

Ted stated they should know history as well as the point made by Creekster that some of the players then remain players today. I expect neither honesty nor consistency from politicians.

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

I know you're old, so 40 years ago doesn't sound that long ago to you. But I'm willing to bet 95% of the members of congress today were not in office in 1975. And there's no doubting that politics today, and American society in general, bears very little resemblance to politics and society in the mid-1970s.

Also, people change and evolve. Is that not a good thing? How far back are we willing to go back before we have to admit that the actions and policies of democrats and republicans XX years ago are irrelevant to the actions and policies of those same groups today?

I agree, that was a rather shameful period in our history. A personal memory and threadjack: My best friend's dad was VP of Operations for World Airways at the time. The airline's president, Ed Daly, wanted to help evacuate those in Saigon who had supported the U.S., knowing they were facing either certain death or at least years in a reeducation camp. He volunteered to fly his charter aircraft to Saigon to help with the airlift, but the D.C. bureaucrats dithered as Saigon fell. So Ed personally flew one of his aircraft to Saigon and, just before Saigon fell, he took a planeload of refugees out of the country. So dire was the situation that the plane was taxiing while refugees boarded the plane. Soldiers wanted to get in on the escape but Ed wanted civilians only. Hanging from one of the plane's boarding steps, he emptied his pistol into the air to scare off the soldiers.

I feel in a way for the nominee for the Surpeme Court. Right now he probably has a clean reputation and character. When they are done he will be a scumbag racist hater of women.

No longer is it really about the policy because it is easier to win by smearing someone.
I was flipping stations while driving again, so I honestly have no idea who said it, but a talk radio host was made the comment that the Democrats in congress just want Trump to fail. So they are doing their best to oppose all of his actions, all of his nominees, and everything he does. Hoping that they can cause enough problems for him that he fails.

I couldn't help but thing: "Hmmm...that sounds an awful lot like the approach the Republicans took when Obama took office."
