I think you guys are being unduly hard on beefy. He has hit the nail on the head with regards to Trumps appeal. People desperately want someone to tell it like it is—to say the things they don't have the courage to say aloud. And I can understand why that resonates with many people because at work and at church I am often that person. Though not as bombastic and ridiculous as trump, I am ruthlessly honest and unabashedly confrontational, especially at work.

It gets me into a lot of trouble, especially considering where I live, but people fawn over my behaviour. The difference is, I know where the boundaries are, I am never dishonest and I know how to pick my spot.

The thing is, Trump fans really believe that is what Trump is doing because people only act the way he does when "enough is enough," and it is time someone told it like it is and set everyone straight. They can't even fathom that he would be lying because in their experience, in other aspects of their lives, when some finally has the courage to speak up they typically speak the truth.

And it doesn't hurt that he has a whole news network on his side with many personalities not afraid to tell it like it is in the same fashion.

How do you define "telling it like it is"? Doesn't that suggest that what he's telling is the truth? No, Trump's appeal is similar to that of hooker who talks dirty to you. His people get off on hearing their basest thoughts and desires verbalized.

that’s exactly the problem ... ardent Trump supporters truly believe he is ‘telling it like it is,” and thus telling the truth. It is no more complicated than that. Regardless how apt it is, we don’t even need the metaphor of the hooker.

Trump supporters truly believe he is a truth sayer.

Consider the following story in USA today as a great example:

          https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...ch/5439043002/

“Why are African Americans still dying at the hands of law enforcement in this country?" Herridge asked.
"So are white people. So are white people," Trump replied. "What a terrible question to ask. So are white people. More white people, by the way. More white people."

my parents who are ardent Trump supporters will eat that sh** up as an example of him telling it like it is.

Exactly the latest "tell it like it is" example I was thinking of.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

            • This is what happens when you invite Peter Navarro to your party. Fauci has him nailed.

Trump says Navarro was wrong to write op-ed criticizing Fauci

Fauci, in an interview with the Atlantic published Wednesday, called the attempts to discredit him “bizarre” and said they had wound up hurting Trump.

“I cannot figure out in my wildest dreams why they would want to do that,” Fauci said. “I think they realize now that that was not a prudent thing to do, because it’s only reflecting negatively on them.”

He was even more pointed when discussing Navarro.

“I can’t explain Peter Navarro. He’s in a world by himself,” said Fauci, who serves as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. “So I don’t even want to go there.”

Pete Navarro is also the genius driving Trump's trade policy.

lol. That Navarro hit piece of Fauci is Trump sending up a balloon. The balloon got popped, so Trump totally didn't send up that balloon-- that was all Navarro.

                    • Drain the Swamp! Drain the Swamp! Drain the Swamp!

Trump’s Request of an Ambassador: Get the British Open for Me

The American ambassador to Britain, Robert Wood Johnson IV, told multiple colleagues in February 2018 that President Trump had asked him to see if the British government could help steer the world-famous and lucrative British Open golf tournament to the Trump Turnberry resort in Scotland, according to three people with knowledge of the episode.

The ambassador’s deputy, Lewis A. Lukens, advised him not to do it, warning that it would be an unethical use of the presidency for private gain, these people said. But Mr. Johnson apparently felt pressured to try. A few weeks later, he raised the idea of Turnberry playing host to the Open with the secretary of state for Scotland, David Mundell.

In a brief interview last week, Mr. Mundell said it was “inappropriate” for him to discuss his dealings with Mr. Johnson and referred to a British government statement that said Mr. Johnson “made no request of Mr. Mundell regarding the British Open or any other sporting event.” The statement did not address whether the ambassador had broached the issue of Turnberry, which Mr. Trump bought in 2014, but none of the next four Opens are scheduled to be played there.

Still, the episode left Mr. Lukens and other diplomats deeply unsettled. Mr. Lukens, who served as the acting ambassador before Mr. Johnson arrived in November 2017, emailed officials at the State Department to tell them what had happened, colleagues said. A few months later, Mr. Johnson forced out Mr. Lukens, a career diplomat who had earlier served as ambassador to Senegal, shortly before his term was to end.
