  • The Democratic Party's image is terrible yet they hold a sizeable pooling advantage over the GOP. MAGA is such a bizarre phenomenon and I genuinely don't see how it's members see a benefit.

Imagine going up against an unhinged, lunatic buffoon like Trump and yet people hate you more. You would think it would trigger more introspection.

          Things are not good.

Well, there is no criticism that will cause the GOP to part ways with Trump. He can pretty much do anything and get away with it.

It's not so much that Trump isn't hated enough, it's that he is loved by his base and rewarded for his cruel behaviors.

That loyalty is extending to other players in his circle. The democrats are feckless and rudderless but Trump is immune to criticize from his side.

Im not optimistic about the midterms because im sure they will be held fairly.

              • What a relief that the only AI problem is "if you don't get it." Trump is the lazy kid in the class who didn't do the reading, gets called on, and BS's his way through an answer, thinking he's impressing everyone. In a way, he is.

I think the only way to understand the Trump phenomenon is that he is merely a tool of retribution by disaffected working class men. The retribution is the most important part. Coherence or specific policies are unimportant as long as he is making the "elites" uncomfortable.

Help me define “elites” in this context. I’m genuinely confused. How do they not think Trump, Bessent, Nutlick, Kennedy, are elites? Elite certainly doesn’t seem to be an economic measure.

Are elites defined by MAGA as intellectually elite? Something else?

Yeah, he talking about what the MAGA base considers "elite": liberals, democrats, scientists, college grads, hollywood, whatever. And to a large degree, traditional republican establishment, deep state, etc. Also, anyone that opposes Trump.

You can argue all you want that it is inconsistent and absurd (I agree) but this is definitely a primary narrative of the MAGA movement.

i.e. they fight the people I hate. That absolves them of the dissonance of supporting people who represent very little of their everyday lives.

But the Dems won't as they think they have leverage. I'm starting to think they are going to lose on this one, pretty big, since a clean CR seems absolutely reasonable in this instance, given the previous discussion on how the premium subsidies were always meant to be temporary.
The SNAP issue last weekend seemed to move the needle a bit.

                            Sounds about right.

Trump's disapproval minus approval is at the worst now during his second term. He's 12.9 points underwater: 55% disapprove to 42.1% approve.
