I detest nearly all EOs by presidents of either party because especially recently they push the envelope too much or completely overstep the Constitution. I am not a democrat or liberal. If I had to give myself a label it would be a constitutionalist libertarian, (not the uncle ted kind)

I don't think the whatabout argument here is a good excuse for what Trump is doing anyway. He goes well beyond what's been done before which is much of the appeal to his supporters, isn't it?

can you name a EO in the last 3 other presidents that attempts to do anything as far reaching as dismantling a department of the government.

Some of things in project 2025 have happened and are happening like culling the public workforce and awful immigration policies.
Trump is doing exactly what he said he’d do. Whether it’s in Project 2025 or not doesn’t matter. The Dems need to drop this talking point because it’s not sticking and is making them look ridiculous. My MAGA friends are loving every minute of these first two weeks becasue, as they told me “we voted for this.”

EDIT: With his little stunt today, I expect a suit will be brought by the LA Olympics Committee. Hard to tell how long they'd wait, though.
          I stand corrected.

Since MAGA seems to be at least half the country, I don’t think they care.

Fully agree with the bolded. What is the point, Trump won an election and will do Trump. Besides, YO had some AI program do a thorough scrub of P2025 and it's all very reasonable and cool.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Yeah, couldn’t agree more. The project 2025 talk is dumb.

I'll be looking forward to a complete list of malfeasance rather than tweets.

I too know people who work for USAID. I'm sure a vast majority of those with feet on the ground are honorable citizens and I'm sorry they might lose their jobs. However, the existence of good people doesn't mean there wasn't corruption and waste. Welcome to life in the real world. Many of us have lost a job or two to downsizing.
I get that. If the President and Congress decide that an agency is no longer needed or needs to be downsized, then zero it out via a budget process or legislative action. Many agencies and departments have been established by law. We shouldn't let a President decide solely on his own whims or understanding. Working as the President should with Congress will provide a transparent process and allow us (the American people) to provide input. Right now decision-making is a black box. Also, federal workers have certain protections that will come into play. People need to be fired for cause. The class-action suits will be enormous and they will win. All I ask is that they just do it the way the Constitution demands.

Also, USAID employees are being treated horribly. Have some compassion for people whose live are being turned upside down. They went overseas for us. The messaging coming out of Washington is "cruelty is key."

                          • I actually bothered to contact our new Utah senator. Office doesn't answer calls and his voicemail is full. Not surprised. So I wrote to him. Here is the response.

Blah blah blah. But not surprising. Keeping his head down.

Thank you for reaching out to share your thoughts on the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and Elon Musk’s role in the new administration. I appreciate hearing your views and value the opportunity to respond.

The Department of Government Efficiency was established by an executive order issued by President Trump. DOGE operates within the Executive Office of the President, granting its officials access to all unclassified agency records, software systems, and IT infrastructure. The goal of DOGE is to modernize government operations, streamline bureaucracy, and identify opportunities for cost savings. While I recognize concerns from Utahns regarding spending cuts and agency reform, I support efforts to make the federal government more efficient—especially if they help address our growing national debt.

Our country faces a serious fiscal challenge, and I have consistently said that we must take our debt problem seriously. Targeted and responsible spending reductions are essential to reducing the deficit while maintaining essential services. If DOGE can help eliminate waste, enhance productivity, and bring much-needed efficiency to federal agencies, it will be a step in the right direction.

As head of DOGE, Elon Musk has been tasked with overseeing efforts to improve government efficiency. His background in streamlining operations and driving innovation is well known, and his leadership will undoubtedly shape the organization’s approach. At the same time, it is important that DOGE operates with appropriate oversight to maintain transparency, prevent conflicts of interest, and ensure its work remains focused on serving the American people.

Thank you again for sharing your concerns and priorities with me. Your input is invaluable as I work to represent Utah in the Senate. None of this backs up your point which is being quite dismissive towards myself and anyone else who found Project 2025, the culture is involved with it and the blatant dishonest denials about it alarming.

This isn't about liberal vs conservative. MAGA is authoritarian. It's not on the dems to "rationalize" with MAGA. MAGA isn't interested in that.

It's ok to just criticize MAGA without holding democrats responsible for not wrangling them in.

There isn't a need to assign responsibility for Trump's harmful actions to democrats. It's his fault and MAGA's. I'm disappointed in democrats but they aren't accountable for this administrations actions. You kvetched about democrats protesting but there not being lawsuits without bothering to be informed.

We don't exist in a country where the "both sides are equally corrupt" equation is currently valid at present.
