What's the argument that anything DOGE is doing is in good faith?

Scrapping this program will cost us more in the long run due to lost influence. They aren't auditing it. They are taking a scalpel to it and ignoring rules, regulations, norms and laws in the process. It's performative but harmful.
It just can't be that the status quo is perfect. Scale and approach is certainly open to criticism. I think its extreme to say that nothing in the federal government is worthy of scrutiny.

Like I said, I don't know how to think about USAID. But some fairly ludicrous funding priorities have already come to light. An audit is justified, but I'm not sold on killing the agency yet.

      so much winning.

What they are doing isn't really an audit. I wouldn't have a problem with an audit.

I can't get over it. Trump has said and done a lot of stupid things, but this may very well be the dumbest and most dangerous idea he has ever had. Lol @ people like Uncle Ted who support him for keeping us out of foreign entanglements.

People are starting to call it "Mar-a-Gaza". Ha.

              Three words, then:

              Congressional. Oversight. Committe.

USAID is law. How USAID funds projects is the law. The Department of Education is law. If you don't like them, lobby to change the law. If you think there are programs we shouldn't be involved in, like, say, cover for CIA ops 5000, 5001, and 5002, contact your member of Congress or contact someone on the Oversight committee.

If the executive didn't like a statutory program, the executive should have vetoed the bill that funded or created it. Having not done so, or having had their veto overridden, their task is to faithfully execute the law.

This shit is Trump trying to turn Congress into an advisory committee, where he spends what he wants on whatever he wants with zero oversight or pushback.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. I don't disagree. Process is important. But it's also within the right of the executive to interrogate the agencies that fall under their purview.

                  • I tend to think this theory is the most plausible. In short, he is shifting the Overton Window.

I have a theory that tries to explain all these and other facts, though many other factors matter too. I think of Trumpian policy, first and foremost, as elevating cultural policy above all else.
Imagine you hold a vision where the (partial) decline of America largely is about culture. After all, we have more people and more natural resources than ever before. Our top achievements remain impressive. But is the overall culture of the people in such great shape? The culture of government and public service? Interest in our religious organizations? The quality of local government in many states? You don’t have to be a diehard Trumper to have some serious reservations on such questions.

We also see countries, such as China, that have screwed-up policies but have grown a lot, in large part because of a pro-business, pro-learning, pro-work culture. Latin America, in contrast, did lots of policy reforms but still is somewhat stagnant.

OK, so how might you fix the culture of America? You want to tell everyone that America comes first. That America should be more masculine and less soft. That we need to build. That we should “own the libs.” I could go on with more examples and details, but this part of it you already get.

So imagine you started a political revolution and asked the simple question “does this policy change reinforce or overturn our basic cultural messages?” Every time the policy or policy debate pushes culture in what you think is the right direction, just do it. Do it in the view that the cultural factors will, over some time horizon, surpass everything else in import.

Simply pass or announce or promise such policies. Do not worry about any other constraints.

                      lol

This is Trump go-to solution to practically everyone - build a nice hotel!

Back during the lil rocketman days when Trump met with Kim Jong Un a couple of times a major portion of the U.S. side selling points were these glammed-up brochures showing possible luxury developments on North Korea's west coast. The North Korean side was like What the Fuck? Trump even mentioned it within the past month when asked about North Korea.

He's a lazy, tired old man.

                      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

would you call what has happened so far as “interrogation”?

I'm not being snarky with this response but some things attributed to project 2025, aren't explicitly in that document but the authors involved have a said a shit ton of stuff that proven to be accurate.

Trump has more than once cruelly spoken about turning Gaza into beach front condos.

If you want some insight into the spirit of project 2025 and how they intend to treat their ideological adversaries. Look into the book "Unhumans," by Jack Posebiac. Posebiec was an organizer with that awful fascist rally in Charlottesville. He is someone who hasn't shunned being called a white nationalist.
JD Vance wrote the foreword to that book.

The title is disgusting. It speaks of doxxing, shamming, cyber-bullying, and lawfare against vile liberals.
