think we've jumped the "reservations about the appropriateness" threshold now that there's actual state legislation on the books.

Are we talking about shaka's comments or florida legislation? I can't keep up with these moving goalposts.

You said that pushing back on drag shows was “personally attacking trans people”. A personal attack?

Let me put this as simply as I can: if you employ hyperbole on either side of the argument you are part of the culture war.

i'm talking about dangerous and ideological legislation passed in florida, montana and tennessee, (and similar or worse pending legislation in a bunch of other states). while shaka might still be thinking about the merits of his reported drag experiences, the sentiment has proceeded beyond "maybe i wouldn't take my kids to this" to the government outlawing expression. it's dangerous and silly and solves no actually identified empirical harm (seriously, do we have an example of drag queens molesting or grooming kids while reading books at a local library?). culture wars at their finest: government action to solve a fake problem that has caused zero identified harm.

I want to know if all this Republican energy could possibly be put to a better use... like stemming gun violence against children? Nah.

Framing the issue as protecting children is disingenuous as hell. This has nothing to do with protecting children and everything to do with attacking the LGBTQ community. I've been to comedy shows that are raunchy and filthy, and attended by minors. Where is the outrage from the right? Are any of these drag library reading hours more sexual than Game of Thrones? Millions of minors have watched the GOT parade of nipples and incestuous violence. Where's the outrage from the right? Are drag library readings more offensive than hip-hop lyrics listened to by millions of minors every day, or are they more dangerous than than the avalanche of violence in the video games kids play every day? Drag library reading is less than a footnote when it comes to offensive content to which our children are exposed on a daily basis. The right doesn't have a beef with HBO or music labels or video game creators, but they do have a beef with the gays, which is why they have planted their flag on the hill of drag. It's stupid and it's dishonest.

Is there a Goodwin's law for gun violence. It seems every time a Republican legislature makes a law with which a there is disagreement, a statement similar to the above is made by those in opposition. I am not arguing for or against the proposition being debated, just making an observation.

And I'm just observing that there is a lot of weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth/legislative proposals over things that haven't been shown to adversely affect a single person and a lot of thoughts and prayers for things that clearly do. Cry foul if you think that's unfair, but... don't some of these people get a salary to stem systemic problems where possible?
