What kinds of hyper-sexual things are in drag shows? Is it the Cher numbers?Originally posted by Shaka View Post
Many view drag shows as a form of burlesque. Most of the time it's hyper-sexual, dirty, and presents a facsimile of the feminine that is not comfortable for a lot of adults let alone kids. I think it's understandable why many are pushing back."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

Is it really happening to the extent that conservative media is hyping it, and for multiple states to pass laws against it? It's just bizarre that it is such a huge issue now that ostensibly conservative players would betray their anti-government regulation bona fides.Originally posted by Shaka View Post

Too many videos on social media of drag shows at elementary schools, etc. May be rare, but social media magnifies it. I swear the trans movement is its own worst enemy.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post

I've never seen a drag show, and I assume that 95% of the apoplectic conservatives railing against drag shows have never seen one either. Forgive me if I don't take your word for it that most are hyper-sexual and dirty. As with anything else, I assume there is a spectrum which is very subjective. I do believe, however, that most of the angst on the right is due to their problem with all things associated with LGBTQ. If people on the right are not comfortable with drag shows, they shouldn't attend them, and they shouldn't take their kids to them. Frankly, I'm a lot more concerned with people on the right grooming their children to be Christian national fascists than I am about the others who expose their children to drag, reading hours at the local library.Originally posted by Shaka View Post

I've been to a couple of drag shows and in my musician days played gigs where drag shows were also on the bill. They were exactly how I described them. I'm sure that my experience is not comprehensive but it jibes with how drag shows have historically been portrayed in media. One of my older brothers took side gigs working security when he was a cop. One of the places he'd wind up was the infamous Sun Bar in SLC. For the unfamiliar The Sun Bar was SLC's primary gay bar in the eighties/nineties and they had drag shows. My bro had some interesting stories.Originally posted by Commando View Post

Many of the drag queens I've met over the years were pretty nice people, not all were gay, and a few were closeted LDS husbands/fathers. While I can't go back in time I'd wager that most of those guys wouldn't deem a child audience as an appropriate place for their act.

I've been to drag shows but not by choice. It's the price you pay when you're dating a liberal LDS jack-Mormon chick who was probably too attractive for me and had a lot of LGBTQ friends with whom she liked to party. I'm pretty sure hanging occasionally in the gay scene was her form of rebellion against the oppressive conservative LDS regime that was her parents. We didn't last long but she was actually a lot of fun, sometimes in ways that would make my bishop uncomfortable.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View Post

The Vernal public library had a drag queen do story time. Now, I’m sure Vernal has its queers and drag queens but I can assure you the whole event was put together specifically to irritate the over arching conservative culture and create media attention.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post

it was a private, RSVP only event in the upstairs (ie, non public part of) the library. It was not sponsored, advertised, or sought out by the library. It’s just a private group using the library space for a reading/singing event.
it really is amusing that stopping these types of events are THE major platform of meatball.

even if this was a publicity stunt to get attention and didn’t go down like applejack said, Vernal?!?
Vernal is helping drive a national media story and conservative law making in multiple states?!?
I would like to see the receipts showing drag shows are a bigger problem than Vernal."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Come on. Surely you guys aren’t naïve enough to believe this is all based on some incident in Vernal Utah?"There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Of course not. I’m sure there are a handful of other incidents in the country that have been magnified by the right for political gain. But in the real world, the significance of drag shows is about as important as Vernal is to the rest of the country.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostCome on.
