The rise of partisans and guerilla forces is new for this war. Previously Russia has hastened to set up a stooge government, complete with fake referendum. Now the locals in all cities except for DPR and LPR are resisting and hunting down collaborators. And even DPR and LPR are turning against Russia. Probably something to do with being pressganged for walking while male. And Russia throwing soldiers into the fray poorly equipped and untrained. But mostly because the RF does not differentiate between DPR and LPR and will throw say, DPR conscripts into the fray fighting for LPR. If there is any action that signals to the secessionists that Russia sees them as one giant monolith force to fuel the Russian machine wherever and however Russia wants, it is this action. There really were no semi-independent, sovereign nations there.

well estonia is a main reason for aggression against ukraine. obviously they are different entities but 'enhanced forward presence' is the name of the british military presence in estonia that was designed to take advantage of soft power (soccer coaching for example) to convert estonia more to anti russian sentiment. how is that not an act of war?Originally posted by LVAllen View Post
Why, hello there, Comrade randomword+numbers! Perhaps you might explain how Ukraine possibly joining NATO would threaten Russia in a way that Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania haven't? Estonia is 25% Russia speaking, so Putin's "Poor Ethnic Russians" spiel would seem to apply at least at much as it does to Ukraine (which is to say, not at all).
Or, more likely, it is that Ukraine has significant natural resources that Ukraine wanted to use and that Putin wants to steal.
Russia is not a nation state. Russia is a Mob that sells gas and only keeps the country's lights on because it's harder to steal in the dark. They don't need to be provoked. They just need to see that their neighbor has something that they want.
of course it is easy to hate russias existence but the sheer gall is causing the reaction from russia predominantly. obv there is a funnel issue geographically, crimea having water cut off and resources on land and black sea but they do not expand anywhere near as aggressively as nato/west.

Oh that's right. A strategic military alliance is so eggregious (because look at all the awful things NATO has done to sovereign countries throughout history) that what Russia is doing simply balances the books.Originally posted by doubled1986 View Post

How far down the road do you think NATO would have invaded Russia?

We've seen this playback repeatedly throughout history. First, the aggressor nation lulls the neighboring nations to complacency by coaching soccer, next they invade and conquer all those neighboring nations. We saw that with the Romans, the Huns, the Mongols, etc.Originally posted by doubled1986 View Post

Always be suspicious of any nation who attempts to coach soccer in a different country."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Does it matter what the Ukrainians want? Clearly not. They should be happy being slaves to Russia, right?Originally posted by doubled1986 View Post

Is it not enough to see children bombed and raped and cities leveled? We have to understand the history of the Soviet Breakup? No intimate knowledge of the political forces sweeping through the region will ever lead me to think, "Yeah well, NOW I understand so I am on the Russian side."Originally posted by doubled1986 View Posti cant stand ukrainian flags up in this country when people have no idea what has happened in europe since the wall fell. how can people be pro something they have no idea about?

We are responsible for wrongs tantamount to war crimes such as bombing civilian targets, child murder, widespread rape, pillaging, and burning of a sovereign country? Russia did this because we were complicit in 'provoking' them, huh? Please do go on.Originally posted by doubled1986 View Postso many people are pro ukraine but dont realise what being pro nato and anti russia actually means on the flip side. so many people in US claim to be neutral or just trying to figure out what is going on/dont claim to know but then side with ukraine anyway. this was all planned by nato and we are complicit in provoking russia as much as anything russia has done wrong.
