This one is way out in Far East Russia, so it seems a little too remoate to be Ukrainians, but who knows.

It’s not unbelievable. It has been very easy to enter Russia from Ukraine for a long time. The target’s value could be in showing Putin they can hit him on the other side of the country.

There definitely is a sabotage campaign going on.

    • Channel surfing after watching the Mavs blowout of the Suns, I stumbled upon the 2003 movie, The Italian Job, just in time to hear one of the characters declare, "If there's one thing that I know, it's never to mess with Mother Nature, mother-in-laws, or mother-freakin' Ukrainians." Prescient.

        • NATO's Secretary General estimates Russia has lost a third of its ground forces they started with in Ukraine (killed, wounded and lost equipment). He also says Ukraine could win the war. I'm hopeful.

            • Wow, this is well worth a watch. Russian expert goes on Russian state media and gives a brutally honest assessment of both the war and Russia's international isolation. I am guessing he won't be invited back. Notice the lame attempts by the female panel member to detract from what he is saying.

                • He's back and making up for his negative assessments. Strange focus on Snake Island when saying how Uks will not be able mount a counteroffensive. I'm no military guy, but taking back Snake Island would be plain dumb (creating an unprotected target) and should be very low on the Uks' priority list in terms of retaking.

But whew, that was close for that guy, but I'd recommend he still watch his back.

Not much to celebrate in the last couple of weeks. Russia steadily making gains.

I haven't been following as closely the last few days because I'm too busy being on vacation.

But it's been looking rough in the Donbas region. Russia is throwing soldiers, equipment and everything they have into the effort, and are testing the Ukrainian lines. They are slowing grinding across the area, destroying everything in their march.

                            • Does Putin think of himself as a modern day Peter the Great? Well, Peter the Great died of a bladder infected with gangrene. Maybe Putin will have a similar fate.

                              https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-61767191

[Putin] told his select audience that Peter the Great was a role model.

"You might think he was fighting with Sweden, seizing their lands," Mr Putin said, referring to the Northern Wars which Peter launched at the turn of the 18th Century as he forged a new Russian Empire.

"But he seized nothing; he reclaimed it!" he said, arguing that Slavs had lived in the area for centuries.

"It seems it has fallen to us, too, to reclaim and strengthen," Mr Putin concluded, with a near-smirk that left no doubt he was referring to Ukraine and his aims there.

                              • The tide has turned in Russia's favor. They're slowly taking over the Donbas region, and Ukraine can't stop them. The West has failed to get Ukraine the weapons they need to stand their ground. Russia is paying a high cost in body count, but they're achieving their objectives. Ukraine is also paying a high cost in military and civilian lives.

How bad is it getting for the 100,000 in Mariupol? No food, no water--this thing is a disaster of biblical proportions.

Millions across the globe could be plunged into food insecurity. What a fiasco this thing is!
