Not sure what went down here, but it looks like the Russian tried to shoot while surrendering. That may have led to an execution of all the prisoners as retribution. The details are unclear from the footage.

Russia is trying to gain air superiority in Ukraine.
Colin Kahl, the Pentagon's top policy advisor, cautioned that Moscow also hoped to deplete Ukrainian air defenses that have so far prevented the Russian military from establishing dominance of the skies above Ukraine.
