    • This is a very well written article that is probably the most accurate and balanced that I've seen on the internet: http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/16/living...gle/index.html

While dozens of LGBT Mormon advocacy organizations have arisen with the advent of the internet, the church has been careful not to sanction any of these grassroots movements. And for devout members like Fisher, seeking answers from outside sources is often deemed subversive.

According to his public search history, Fisher sought answers to his questions from the church. He never ventured into the large repository of anti-Mormon blogs and forums. Instead, he visited the church's website and typed the word "seek" into the scriptural search bar. He navigated to the page for Matthew 7:7: "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you."

But Fisher found few resources for gay Mormons in official church publications.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Utah Republican loses reelection bid, 1 year after coming out as gay

A Republican politician in Utah has lost his bid for reelection,14 months after coming out as gay.

Utah County Commissioner Nathan Ivie lost last week’s primary to former Marine Lt. Col. Tom Sakievich by a 20-point margin — a result he “absolutely” attributes to his sexuality.

I voted for him. I had no idea that he was gay before I voted for him. Didn't hear a peep about it. The biggest issue that people had with him was his support for the badly needed 60% tax increase.

Of course we now bring in the guy who will continue to grow the county's deficit and make the situation even worse.

Did not hear a single word about his sexual orientation during the past few months, but I heard a lot about financial mismanagement in the county for the last two years. But OK, let's pretend it was about that.

67% tax increase last year. They were going to go with a 100% increase, but backed down. Philosophically, I don't mind the tax hike that much, but it appears that the county budget was horribly mismanaged for several years prior.

Since you don't mind the tax hike that much they should just go with 200% increase each year until they get that mismanagement problem taken care of. Then they could level it off.

The problem lies with the anti-tax voters IMO. I hate national and state taxes as much as anyone, but I find local ones much more palatable. Too many Utah voters reflexively vote against any increase regardless of merit. What happened with the school bonds across the state last November was awful.
