There are more than a few democrats who are in an introspective mood. Democrats who think mostly in terms of economics and democratic processes (modernists), are feeling at odds with the identity politics/PC/SJW crowd (postmodernists).

I think my party should give more heed to the Cory Bookers of the world than to the Elizabeth Warrens.

I hope that happens. The demo would be much more likeable for me. I really like Booker

I keep scratching my head over this post. What exactly is your point? Whether they were voting for a fellow mormon or not, a significant number rallied around a non-Trump candidate. The fact that he is a squeaky-clean mormon does not invalidate that point one iota. Good for Utah for producing a palatable alternative. Bottom line is that Trump won Utah with only 46% of the vote. 74% of registered voters either stayed away from the polls, or voted for someone else.

Meanwhile, you are high-fiving yourself because the DC voters went 94% for HRC. Your implication is that unlike those hypocritical mormons, these DC folks have character! But of course you and I both know that a 94% outcome in DC is probably even more of a blindly partisan outcome than anything Utah has ever done. The republican party could have run a resurrected Abe Lincoln for president and DC would have still voted party line. Don't kid yourself.

I would say the Electoral College did pretty much exactly what it was designed to do by the Founding Fathers.

I don't think that was their main concern. It was a safety mechanism so the elites could veto bad popular vote outcomes. Maybe it's not working like they intended, or totally outlived its necessity or use.
