That is a very uplifting video. I'm going to show it tonight for FHE. Thanks for sharing and thanks to your daughter for helping. My SIL, her husband and three little ones were hammered in NJ. They are still without power. They lost all their food and have very little by way of money. They were taken in by the bishop of their ward after 3 or 4 days so a least now they have heat and warm water for bathing. We tried to get them a generator but there were no deliveries to the area until this week. It is nice to see so many people give of their time to help others like that. I appreciate it on behalf of my SIL and her family and they don't even live in that area.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Thank you for posting, PAC. The devastation is unreal. Very touching.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostHere's a nice video of the Mormon Helping Hands clean-up effort. I got a little choked up to see my daughter boarding one of the buses to go help (the ponytailed redhead at approx. 1:10). One can mock the self-aggrandizing nature of the video, but I think it's great and that this is the future of our missionary effort.

A couple of statements in that video really resonated with me. I loved the missionary who said he came to New York to help others, whether that was by preaching the gospel or by unflooding a basement. And I like the young mother who noted that their ward building didn't have power, so they had a brief sacrament meeting, very cold, and then the congregation boarded four buses to go out and help others. Can there be a better sacrament meeting than that?
It reminded me of the old Brigham Young story when he and another guy were crossing a river and got stuck. The other guy said, "Well, I guess we'd better pray, right Brother Brigham?" BY replied, "We prayed this morning, it's time to get out and push." I'm proud to be a member of an organzation that sometimes gets out and pushes.

That was the exact story I thought of when watching the video and I'm not just saying that to be conversational. I really did.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostIt reminded me of the old Brigham Young story when he and another guy were crossing a river and got stuck. I wish more sacrament meetings were like that. We do F&T once a month. Wy can't we do a service Sunday once a month. Get out into the community and work. That would be amazing.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostA couple of statements in that video really resonated with me. Another comment that stood out in my mind...the elderly woman that said she was impressed by how many young people showed up. Clearly her expectations of todays youth might generally be a little more skeptical as it pertains to work ethic, self sacrifice, or uncompensated labor. these are the same young people that are out knocking doors on missions. I am really happy to see our youth out there building bridges through their good examples. I have always been a big fan of our youth. By and large, We have really good kids in the Church....teens, young adults, etc.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.
