I admit I wasn't there. For all I know the cop's actions were completely appropriate, but from everything I've heard my gut tells me that the guy didn't need to die.Originally posted by Shaka View PostReally? Case law? With due respect to all the lawyers on the board, who gives a crap about case law? This is about whether this guy should be dead. Just because Utah law allows lethal force against fleeing felons, doesn't mean a fleeing felon needs to die. If the guy possessed an imminent threat to bystanders, I have no problem with the shooting. But from what I've read I'm not sure that was the case.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View PostThe suspect could be mere feet away from the crowd, but with a clear backdrop, enabling a clear shot. Until you are intimately familiar with the facts of the incident, I would be very careful about passing the judgement that you seem to be passing. As for shooting someone who is running away from police, there's plenty of case law and law on the books that address this issue. Until you understand all of that, you may not understand the police officers' actions."The mind is not a boomerang. If you throw it too far it will not come back." ~ Tom McGuane

Right who cares about the rule of law? Maybe instead of blaming the cops, you should assign some blame to the guy waving a sword around.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View PostCase law? Maybe if the sword was flaming, the cops would have been more apt to comply with his demands.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View PostRight who cares about the rule of law? There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

When did I ever say that I didn't blame the guy waving the sword? Of course he shared the blame. I'm just talking about the point at which you need to kill a guy. And no, the rule of law means nothing to me.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View PostRight who cares about the rule of law? I'm sure there is a swat team in your town that would show up and shoot your dog unsolicited. That's the kind of brave men we have protecting us.Originally posted by BigPiney View PostI have no problem with this. There is a little yapper, I think poodle, down two houses and accross the street. He starts yapping at anytime. Day, night, afternoon. They will let him yap for hours. Sometimes if he is in the road and I go out front to do something he comes charging and yapping.Originally posted by BigPiney View PostI have no problem with this. If SWAT showed up and shot him, it would bring a smile to my face.

Yeah that dog was totally out of control sniffing the grass all haphazardly.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostThe lesson here: people need to control their dogs.
