LOL... so you are saying that the lefty antifa kids jumped this guy, beat him with a skateboard, and pulled a knife on him because they saw he had a gun? If so, these antifa kids are really dumb.

This has to be #fakenews... I have been told that these lefty antifa kids are totally peaceful. For example, look at this CHAZ/CHOP dude:

How could that antifa kid hurt anyone? He doesn't even know what day it is. Reminds me of Joe Biden.

Reform is truly needed but if you think all this public brow-beating of officers will have a positive impact. I disagree. Seems Trump is the lone man supporting Law Enforcement. The media-hysteria has fed the feeding frenzy of Law Enforcement as all evil. Truly sad to see and cannot stomach.

For little pay, and the threat of being killed at work, to now have an increased rules of engagement which will cause you to pause in your decision-making, that can be the difference in life or death. I think we will see the loss of quality officers.

All this bloodletting of Law Enforcement will have negative ramifications. It remains to be seen how much good will come of this.

This whole situation is truly demoralizing to witness

Ending qualified immunity will not stop good cops from doing their jobs, if their job entails not abusing their power. Regrettable police mistakes will still happen, but if they are truly reasonable a court will be able to sort that out. It will help foster a culture of police reform, which is absolutely needed system-wide. And it will give confidence to the marginalized of society that they have recourse if and when bad cops abuse their power.

Right. Lack of qualified immunity should not be what stops a good cop from drawing and firing a weapon. As it's enforced now, it seems like qualified immunity's main effect is protecting the bad cops - emboldening them to use excessive force, knowing that the law can't do anything to them.

Lack of qualified immunity will be what stops a good cop from being a cop at all.

If that's true, then we need to completely redefine what it means to be a cop in this country.

                      • Would any of you sign up to be cop knowing that you would be frequently put in dangerous situations and making the wrong snap decision could land you in jail for murder? Not me. I am not saying they should get blanket immunity, but to ignore the reality of their unique circumstances is crazy.

                        • My comment is just the overall assault on Law Enforcement when the majority of them are not bad cops. Not sure about any of you, but there is a point where the risk outweighs my desire to serve. Why would I serve a community who despises me? Never mind their own mental health and negative effects on their family.

We are going to lose good officers no matter what. The question remains is all of this going to weed out the bad ones??

Yes... give those bad pigs the death penalty:

Rayshard Brooks killing: Former Atlanta Officer Garrett Rolfe charged with murder, could face death penalty

Garrett Rolfe, the Atlanta police officer fired after the killing of Rayshard Brooks last week, now faces 11 charges including felony murder, which could potentially lead to the death penalty, a Georgia district attorney announced Wednesday.

A second officer, Devin Brosnan, is facing three charges, including aggravated assault. Brosnan has agreed to testify in the case against Rolfe, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard Jr. said at a news conference.

Would like some of CS's legal minds to weigh in on qualified immunity. My limited understanding is that it protects cops from frivolous civil lawsuits. Like an attorney suing an officer after being ticketed for speeding. In the greater Dallas area, there have been several high profile police shootings where officers made the wrong snap decision and are now in jail. One of them was a female officer who returned to her apartment after a very long shift obviously fatigued. She parked on the wrong floor of the parking garage and entered the wrong apartment (she lived directly above it). The door was unlocked and she thought someone had broken into her apartment. The African American in the apartment was also very surprised and disoriented. He was shot and killed by the officer who was found guilty of murder. In my view, it was a solid case for manslaughter but there was a great deal of pressure to find the officer guilty of murder. So I'm not sure qualified immunity protects policemen in these cases since I don't remember it being brought up as a defense. Anyway, that's why I would like the resident legal team to weigh in.

This may bring on #AbolishThePolice without the Dem leaders even voting for it when they find their police departments can't hire cops.

I am all for saving the tax payers' money by privatizing the police with private security. More gated neighborhoods and folks with concealed carry licenses. The dumb cops are not going to protect you from being beat up at gas station anyway:

You are going to need to protect yourself. Get your concealed carry and learn how to use it. Just think of all the taxes we are going to save!
