If you haven't seen this clip, I think it does a good job of showing that Romney isn't invulnerable on this issue.

I think Mitt should sit down with the dude at the 1:07 mark and give him some financial/investing advice. Maybe it's just me. Or maybe I've been out of school too long to understand how things work. But I just don't think you should take out $150K in student loans for a degree in something that doesn't have enough demand to get you a job.

Romney and every other politician is always vulnerable to be mocked by comedians. Is that the invulnerability you were referring to?

Nope. More like the fact that his signature business success was running a company that would buy and liquidate businesses (and jobs) for profit.

I've stated in this thread I thought Bain Capital would prove an albatross around Romney's neck at some point.

He will not get major union endorsements. This is not a surprise. The votes he needs are those of independents, who can discern that restructuring a company save 905 of the jobs in it, rather than allowing it to go bankrupt and/or to go out of existence, is not an evil thing. They'll also understand how Bain created many more jobs than it terminated.

He just hasn't been to a polo match or opera with the right hooker yet. That would fix all of this. Then he would want to build things.

I agree that its all about the Independents. Which always annoys me as these wishy-washy stand-for-nothings are bigger bandwagoners than BYU hoops fans

Although I agree with you, I'm afraid you have crossed the line now and will be subjected to public flogging here on CUF.

That is going to be a hard sell, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the facts are not on Mitt's side as far as protecting jobs. Mitt's whole "Sometimes we were successful, other times we weren't" approach to talking about jobs creation seems like a tacit recognition that Bain was often about profit at the expense of jobs.

The truth about the global economy is that it really is cheaper to operate many businesses in other countries. Where does that leave the American worker? We need a president who is willing to fight for American Workers, even against the broader interests of big capital. That just isn't Mitt.

The only way to "fight for American Workers" is to have businesses be as efficient as possble. Without profit there will be no business to provide jobs for anyone.
One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

That is a nice article of faith, but it offers no consolation to American workers. The American Middle Class was built on decent paying manufacturing jobs. Running 'efficient' businesses means moving manufacturing overseas. I just don't see how Republican ideology addresses this fundamental problem about jobs. There just isn't enough room in the service industries to soak up all of the unemployed (who would all need to go back to school for three to four years just to qualify for entry-level service jobs).

Those type of guys don't buy business's that are going great, otherwise you couldn't buy them on the cheap. They buy business's that if not operated effeciently, will go out of business because they will be obsolete or they will get into so much debt doing things the same way in order to make the employess happy, they eventually go out of business and the employee's are unemployed anyway.

Sadly RF, until you convert everyone to mormonism and we go to the United Order, capitalism with it's frailties is the best deal going. Heck, even the communists are moving toward it.

That's a classic stupid ass comment that I wouldn't expect you to make, but perhaps I've underestimated your stupidity.

Wow, what a dickish way to make a non-argument. Watch the Colbert piece and start thinking about how folks like you and Romney are going to respond to this kind of 'stupid ass comment,' because you are going to hear a lot more of it, articulated better than I have done here.
