Oh man, that is sad. Mia is a decent person, and she cared about her constituency. Sad to hear this.

Three of these proposals (the worst ones, IMO) are dead in the water.

SALT LAKE CITY — State legislative leaders said they’ve killed three bills after discussing them with the Judicial Branch.

One of the bills, HB512, would have created a legislative commission to recommend judicial retention.

The second bill, HB451, would have required two-thirds of votes to retain a judge. Currently, the law requires a simple majority.

The third bill, which was un-numbered, would have increased the number of Utah Supreme Court justices.

        Hopefully cooler heads are prevailing.

        • Trevor Lee is a bit of a scumbag. He was out as a DezNat a-hole while running for the legislature but that wasn't enough for democrats to win. He is leading the charge of banning the pride flag from schools and now wants to expand that to government buildings. So much for free speech and local government.

Utah Republican Rep. Trevor Lee isn’t content with banning Pride flags from schools — he’s already planning more restrictions if teachers find ways to show LGBTQ+ support.

Lee says if his bill banning Pride flags in Utah’s classrooms doesn’t send a strong enough message to teachers, he’s prepared to come back with legislation next year to expand the crackdown.

HB77 restricts the display of flags on government property to an approved list. The bill creates a stark contrast: Pride flags would be banned, while Nazi or Confederate flags would be permitted temporarily if they are deemed educational.

During a Zoom call with the far-right organization Utah Citizens for the Constitution, Lee boasted that some form of his bill would pass the Utah Senate before the Legislature adjourns on Friday, according to a recording reviewed by Utah Political Watch.

So let me get this straight. We more or less pioneered universal mail in voting and had a system that ran well. Along comes 2020 and other states tried to implement what we took our time with in a very short time and were accused of irregularities. Now we are dumping a well vetted, well running system because of alleged problems in other states. One of the dumbest things I have seen the Utah Legislature do.

I'm fine with them leaving. I'm sure the attendees will really enjoy Eldora or the 2-3 hour drive to get to actual good ski resorts.

                        • Colorado threw a bunch of money at them. I'm sure the weirdness of Utah didn't help. But this was a financial, not a political move.

Pretty much how I feel. It was cool having them here, even if it was somewhat of an odd fit.

The Board literally stated in the article that Politics were not involved.

                              But keep grinding that axe...

Ol' Sundance Bob who started the whole thing thought it was a good fit. The great thing about Bob is that he could have friendly political disagreements without throwing a hissy fit.
