I am working on a blog post about this and will let you know when I am done. I will say that after Romneycare passed, lots of other states (including CA) looked at it as a model and tried to figure out a way to copy it, but decided they could not, because the Massachusetts healthcare landscape was unique. That's one of Romney's points -- all 50 states are so different that a one-size-fits all federal solution is not the right way to go.Originally posted by frank ryan View Postdo tell. even if the program was a carbon copy i wouldnt vote for romney, but i'm interested in your perspective“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

You are right. But Romney won't win. He doesn't have the charisma. Are you a philpanderer?Originally posted by RobinFinderson View PostIt really isn't such a big deal, but I appreciate the depth of feeling you have about the issue, which I can only interpret as a kind of love."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. I believe health care is a right. Understand, I live in a country that has universal health care. I'm well aware of the pitfalls. I do not think it should be federally mandated, but rather mandated at the state level. Quite frankly, what I know of his character, Huntsman doesn't have wherewithal to tackle the issue.Originally posted by frank ryan View Postdo tell. even if the program was a carbon copy i wouldnt vote for romney, but i'm interested in your perspective

That's the sort of bullshit Exie and others of his ilk like to pull: the cheapest form of character assassination is the vague accusation without evidence.

But it won't be mandated by all states. Just like access to education was not meted out in a fair fashion before the feds got invovled and ended segregation.Originally posted by tooblue View PostI believe health care is a right. Martin Luther King sums up my feelings on healthcare nice:"Of all forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

states will shirk their duty to provide access to healthcare. so i that is why federal intervention, as sloppy as it may be is needed. As far as public services in Utah go. they don't give a damn about you unless you have kids or are disabled and even then it aint real generous.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI am working on a blog post about this and will let you know when I am done. Actually, the state of Utah was incredibly generous when it covered all of the costs of Faith's pregnancy with Little Robin. I was very impressed by the level of care they received. Everything from neonatal screening to choice in hospital and primary care (we went with nurse midwifes in American Fork). When it comes to popping out baby Utahans, Utah is a veritable communist state.Originally posted by frank ryan View Poststates will shirk their duty to provide access to healthcare. so i that is why federal intervention, as sloppy as it may be is needed. Horseshit. "Access to healthcare" (I'm not even sure what you mean by that amorphous term) is provided to everyone that needs it - just go to any emergency room in the U.S. Hospitals are not allowed to refuse emergency treatment to anyone based on ability to pay.Originally posted by frank ryan View Poststates will shirk their duty to provide access to healthcare. so i that is why federal intervention, as sloppy as it may be is needed. Beyond emergency medical treatment, I disagree with your fundamental assumption that the state must provide "access to healthcare". Unlike tooblue, and obviously you, I don't believe healthcare is a right.
Healthcare is a limited resource that we each put an individual value on. Some people value it more than others. Why should the state provide it to all? There is not an infinite supply of medicine or doctors or facilities. As with all limited resources, there must be a form of rationing. Should every illness be treated? Should every life be prolonged? Why do you think the state should make decisions about allocating that resource? Why do you think the state making decisions about who lives and who dies, and that is exactly what it boils down to, is any more "fair" or "moral" or "decent" than simply having money pick who lives and who dies?
