  • I don't ever want to hear GOP-aligned people proclaim that they are for legal immigration, and that migrants should just "do it the right way" again.

DHS is taking refugees - people who went through the long vetting process while in another country (often in a refugee camp), and were subsequently admitted - and claiming they need to be revetted, and imprisoned while they take however long they want to do the revetting. They did it "the right way." They are legal immigrants. And this administration wants to imprison them anyway.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Surveys seem to indicate that most Americans favor legal immigration and want reasonable legal pathways for entering and living here while having an orderly border. Unfortunately those who are running our immigration policy right now, like Stephen Miller, are adamantly opposed to all immigration, including even finding ways to push out even as many legal immigrants as they can who are already here.

Not to minimize your anger and I do agree to a certain extent, but (Yeah I know), could this also be a result of the complete and total incompetence of the Open Borders and letting people into the country without being truly vetted. I don't agree with them being held in a prison and not allowing them to remain in their current homes and disrupting their lives. But, there needs to be some vetting done properly. I do think we allowed a substantial amount into our country without knowing for sure who they were/are.

No, it can't. Again, these were not situations where someone showed up on American soil and asked for asylum, so the agents performed credible fear check and possibly release while the process worked itself out.

These are people who went fully through the process before coming here. Examples of who are affected: the Afghan refugees that helped us out and are now under threat of death. Christian refugees from Burma, some who have spent more than a decade in a refugee camp waiting. These are people who are resettled here and eligible for green cards.

            • 16-year old, driving alone. Seized by ICE. Assigned a new Alien number (he has an open asylum cases, so he already had an A-number). Injected with 5 vaccines in each arm. Deemed an "unaccompanied minor." Sequestered away to a "Christian youth shelter" with a recent history of staff-on-immigrant children sexual assaults and non-compliance with background checks. Was not permitted to tell his father where he was during the limited phone contact permitted.

When a judge demanded to know where he was, ICE claimed he wasn't in their custody (same attorney who said the work sucked and her client kept violating court orders and was promptly fired). So, this kid was lost in the system for a week.

16 years old. I have a 16 year old daughter.

ICE needs to be razed to the ground.

              • Before this surge, some people planned how to disappear people and make it difficult for anyone to track migrants’ locations, and in a way to ensure ICE could operate above the law and societal norms. That plan also included detaining minors and throwing them in detention with no regard for safety. ICE might have slashed training requirements for new recruits and terrorized streets with little planning, but some people meticulously planned how to destroy peoples’ lives in a way that conventional government couldn’t stop them.

the cruelty was always the point, and about half the country collectively yawns at it because of their privilege. The country is not in a good place.

MAHA/MAGA would be outraged about this, except for the fact that they think he is now going to die soon because of the jab(s). But he's brown, so they're good with that. In other words, don't be confused by this apparent departure from MAGA's preferred lane, because it's not actually a departure in their minds.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

It's tragic that it's gotten to where a significant number of people think that the offense of living here without legal permission is so egregious and evil that it justifies treating such with significant cruelty AND to deny due process which is guaranteed to everyone in the Bill of Rights. The crime of being here illegally is apparently so intolerable to some that even if a few legal residents or even citizens get caught up in ICE's actions...well, too bad but it's an acceptable price to pay. Seems un-American to me. I don't think even close to the majority of Americans think that way, and ICE will be one important factor in how badly Republicans will lose in November.

It helps to view things through the lens of The Great Replacement theory. Bannon and Miller are all about that, and Christian Nationalism is a vehicle to facilitate that

                      • A sick, blind man who speaks no English is taken into ICE custody in Buffalo, NY. They release him to a Tim Horton's a mile from a wrong address. They do not notify his family. That night it was 36 degrees with a 10 mph wind. He was found dead a few days later.

Needless tragic things will continue to happen as long as removing as many foreigners as possible and the associated cruelty of it remains such a core value of our government.

A government that is completely indifferent to human suffering.

His death by ICE negligence isn't the only blight on police enforcement either. That criminal charge that led him to incarceration? Ahem,

Shah Alam had been in the Erie County Holding Center since February 2025 after being arrested by Buffalo police. On February 15 last year, he had been out for a walk in his neighborhood and had been using a curtain rod he purchased as a walking stick.

Nearly blind and with no ability to speak English, Shah Alam got lost and ended up on the porch of a woman’s home as she was letting her dog out, according to Macaluso. Shah Alam is completely blind in one eye and can only see with blurry vision for several feet in the other, according to Macaluso.

The woman called police, Macaluso said. When Shah Alam did not follow police commands to drop his curtain rod, they Tasered and beat him, then arrested him, Macaluso said. The officers suffered minor injuries in the scuffle, he said.

Shah Alam was charged with offenses including assault, trespassing and possession of a weapon. Macaluso said Shah Alam’s family opted to not bail him out of the Holding Center for fear he would end up detained by ICE out of state.

The plea deal reached recently allowed Shah Alam to be released on bail without ICE detention, Macaluso said.

Shah Alam’s death comes just 15 months after his arrival in Buffalo in December 2024. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
