Least surprising news ever. They are armed like they’re going to war and can essentially be anonymous. They have implicit immunity from the very top of the government when a confrontation occurs. The deck is entirely stacked in ICE’s favor. No one without a death wish would ever attack or ambush ICE.

Big money for Trump donors in imprisoning immigrants. But its still just not enough.

ICE’s detained population is at its highest level since the agency’s creation in 2003. The majority are incarcerated in for-profit prisons, which has meant millions of dollars in revenue for the private prison industry. Leading for-profit prison companies, including CoreCivic and GEO Group, donated about half a million dollars to Republican members of Congress currently in office, and $57,000 to Democratic congressmembers, from 2021 through 2025, according to an investigation by The Appeal.

During the last three months of 2025, CoreCivic’s revenue from ICE more than doubled from the previous year, from $244.7 million compared to $120.3 million.

The company’s profits spiked to $116.5 million in 2025, an almost 70 percent increase from the previous year.

CoreCivic expects 2026 to be even more lucrative. The company projects its net revenue to increase to between $147.5 million and $157.5 million.

“ICE was our first customer 43 years ago, and has been our largest customer for over a decade,” CoreCivic CEO Patrick Swindle said on the earnings call.

It's official. The two ICE agents lied about getting ambushed and the shooting was in self-defense. For what it's worth, the DOJ is now investigating.

It's comforting there remain guardrails in place. Other examples are the astonishingly (but pleasingly) high number of rejections of indictments sought from grand juries by Trump's DOJ. Historically, federal grand juries indict more than 99% of the time. Bondi et al. are rapidly lowering that percentage. It's not that she's stupid or incompetent--she's just willing to sacrifice her integrity to keep Trump happy--embarrassing and shameful, adjectives that apply to a great deal of what Trump has wrought.

Yeah, this is wild. Does this include immigrants who entered under some kind of status, like seeking asylum, the Haitians who had some kind of work permit, or some other legal status, only to have Trump rescind all of that? Also, what was happening that allowed this, and what do the prior eight years look like?
