  • ICE ICE baby - the immigration thread

There is so much going on with immigration that it deserves a dedicated thread. Here you go you.

It seems like emotions are so high over this topic that it can be hard to decipher truth from propaganda in the news cycle, social media, etc. Case in point:

The NYT article does in fact mention the fact that the officer was attacked. But the news of the shooting set off a new wave of protests and outrage.

Homeland security's account is propaganda unfortunately. You're point is valid but it's worth pointing because they literally pump unhelpful rhetoric

Yeah, like all other federal agencies in this administration, they are too political in their messaging. The point is, it appears that it was not an unjustified use of force. In fact, he shot the guy in the leg rather than kill him. Not sure if that was intentional or not, but fortunate.

Shooting the guy in the leg is an improvement. Genuinely. I miss the days when a law enforcement involved shooting was met with the official line of "we are gathering all the facts," instead Kristie Noem's defensiveness

Trump is now saying he intends to declare martial law. These have been protests not extreme riots and ICE has been the destabilizing factor that local authorities don't want there.

Do ICE agents have tasers? Ii would prefer that before guns. However, in this case, a single taser would not subdue 3-attackers.

People want to lament about propaganda. It swings both ways in the current environment.

Frank spoke of Umberto Echo’s facism. His topic on Semiotics and Media as well as “Hyperreality” can easily identify the methods used by the left to not report on reality, but create a version of reality through selective framing and interpretation. Images of suffering, slogans, hashtags, Group-networks of Anti-ICE protestors and including agitators. This very strategic method shapes public opinion and sways individuals emotionally to drive a moral superiority. Hyperreality is accelerated with memes, viral videos, curated protest videos often overshadowing nuanced facts as JL just pointed out. And the methods of MMM injecting their own personal influence has deteriorated the public’s trust.

Essentially, both sides are culpable for the increased violence. I know you lefties will disagree. It’s all one-sided.

If it was intentional, he's an idiot. Either the situation calls for deadly force or it doesn't. You don't shoot to maim or shoot to kill, you shot to stop.

                Boom.
                Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

And I should add, when you shoot, you aim for center body mass because in a shooting situation, your adrenaline is pumping and it's not time for a finesse shot. The caveat is body armor. I've heard of different ways to do this--Bo Jr.'s training is a little different than mine. I was trained you shoot twice to the center body mass, if they're still coming they might have body armor on so you shoot twice to the groin and then twice to the head.

Yeah, given the circumstances, he had every right to shoot to kill. Maybe he was just a lousy shot?

Not shoot to kill--he has no place deciding he needs to die.

But yes, probably took a bad shot with all the adrenaline.

If you shoot in the chest, you are basically shooting to kill. Stop kidding yourself.

                              ChatGPT says 80-90% death....

Just Kidding. It says 14-37% rate. However, the location of the GSW makes a big difference. I did ask it about "Center Mass" and it says it is the most lethal location as it include vital organs. So yeah I find your percentages to be wrong.. .
