The videos seem to show detonations and they were all triggered within a very short time window. Battery fires would be way less predictable. The twitterverse is speculating that the pagers had C4 or some other type of explosive, and in my layman's opinion I agree with that.
They weren't battery fires... Someone (Mossad) intercepted the supply chain of pagers and put a small amount of explosive it all the pagers. They then convinced Hezbollah operatives that they were tracking their cell phones and got them to switch to pagers. Once the pagers were all distributed they sent the detonator signal to all the pagers. Well done intelligence operation.

    • Iran's ambassador to Lebanon was injured by the pager explosions. That's...interesting. Best case scenario he happened to be with Hezbollah operatives who he somehow didn't know where Hezbollah. There are worse scenarios.

Exactly. As a former artilleryman, we were pretty indiscriminate about the shells we sent down range. I mean we did what we could but the KMart in Lawton, OK was never the same. (didn't happen on my watch, but every class was told about it afterward) The targets pretty much self-select for these, and the explosions seem small enough that any collateral injuries would be minor.

Sure, if those bombs are targeted to just known combatants and they're detonated when there's no innocent civilians around.

I have no sympathy for Hezbollah. I want to know the details of 2700 plus wounded before I make more of a judgment call though.

I would bet good money more than 95% of the wounded are hezbollah. The people who question an operation with that kind of combatant/civilian kill ratio in urban warfare need to check themselves and see if the real issue that bothers them is israel aggressively defending themselves.

                            Maybe. I hope so.

I have no issue with Israel aggressively defending themselves, as long as they take pains to minimize civilian casualties and to make sure they're targeting known terrorists.

Small explosive device carried by members of the terrorist organization. I would like to know how they could have been more surgical and precise.

Because there were 2700 casualties. That is just high, because.
