    • I really enjoy this guy's analysis. Sometimes, he misses but I find him pretty insightful. I think he is Kazakhstani. One interesting tidbit is he speculates that the guy who went one to be the new Hamas head is considered to be less moderate, and that will complicate things.

Are Israel and Iran on the brink of all-out war?

      • Ironically Haniyeh wanted a deal in march and sinwar said no, they killed the more moderate one
i dont think bibi wants a deal either. He has been paying to prop hamas up in order to avoid any solution for 2 decades now. he wanted them in power, he wants them to stay in power.

Bibi isn't blameless for the political climate and it can't off limits to point that out. Fatah shouldn't have been starved.

          • It sounds like Iran's new president is trying to avoid all out war with Israel.

Iran’s new president is battling against the hard-line Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in an attempt to prevent all-out war with Israel, The Telegraph has learned.

            .

The IRGC has been trying to undermine Mr Pezeshkian in its pursuit of a more aggressive retaliation against Israel, aides of the president told The Telegraph.

The ultimate responsibility for deciding how Iran will respond rests with Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader.

“Mr Pezeshkian fears that any direct attack on Israel would have serious consequences,” said a close aide to the president.

“He mentioned that we were lucky that Iran did not go to an all-out war with Israel last time and maybe not this time,” they added, referring to the April 13 attack when Iran fired more than 300 suicide drones and missiles at Israel.

            This part is super interesting:

Many of the people close to Mr Pezeshkian “believe the negligence of Haniyeh’s security was intentional to drag Mr Pezeshkian into war”.

A blame game is now unfolding within the IRGC, The Telegraph understands, as various factions turn on each other over the security breach.

The assassination coincided with Mr Pezeshkian’s first day in office.

During his election campaign, Mr Pezeshkian gained the support of Iranian liberals with a pledge to restore Iran’s international standing through diplomacy and dialogue.

“There have been lengthy and intense discussions where Mr Pezeshkian has been trying to persuade IRGC commanders to avoid actions that could spiral out of control,” said the second aide to Mr Pezeshkian who spoke to The Telegraph.

Echos of Russia post cold war. Probably the same result. The hardliners will eventually prevail.

That is just awful. I can appreciate some people advocating for peace or pushing back against what they see as, and at times has been, oppression, but this is less it overt ethic oppression.

They are doing the exact type of thing they are protesting.

                  • it seems the deal is about to collapse due to hamas being hamas and bibi refusing to allow idf to wiithdraw from border with egypt. if it collapses, iran jumps in. seems like this refusal will draw the us into a war with iran and kill the remaining hostages. worth it?

I've seen speculation that Trump is discouraging Bibi from accepting a cease fire prior to the election, which is absolutely plausible. It's also not unprecedented. Both sides need to make some difficult compromises.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office told the Jerusalem Post Wednesday that Woodruff’s statements were a “complete lie.”

They aren't and that is not a happy thing or something to celebrate.

Also, of all the things for Trump to brag about foreign policy is probably even worse than him bragging about a faithful husband.
He has basically acknowledged not knowing what NATO is and Putin has expressed frustration at having to explain it to him.

Trump is easily manipulated by our adversaries, hence he is all in at letting China do whatever it wants with TikTok.

He gave North Korea a huge propaganda victory and even saluting a DPRK general like a dipshit. He got nothing in return from rocketman.

He has given Putin so much sway over foreign policy, which even if one stubbornly insists that Russia has no sway over him, demonstrates a Trump first approach. He let the Kurds get slaughtered because Erdogan flattered him.

He wants Nordic immigrants and not brown or black people from shithole countries.

My biggest concerns with Trump have always national security related. He will gut our diplomatic approach and our intelligence services will likely be further weakened.

He complains about the deep state but he is the untrustworthy actor in all this.
