The masks are off for anyone who wants to see. One doesn't have to agree with everything Israel does or has done to come to the conclusion that Hamas must be destroyed.

Palestine is looking great to Harvard students!

What a bunch of idiots. Be a little more self aware. The list is full of South Asian, Arab, Palestinian, Islamic and other groups, so no surprises there.

Moli is right, anyone expressing support for or sympathy with what Hamas did will be vilified, and Palestinians (and other Arab states, need to be very careful. At least condemn this horrific act.

Is BYU's Jerusalem Center still open? Pretty tense time to be there, obvs.

No inside info, but I would be surprised if it doesn't close down for a time. Safety concerns and very likely restrictions on movements in and around Israel will significantly limit the usefulness of the time spent there. Plus the Center is in Arab East Jerusalem, so potential for conflict between the residents and Israeli security is heightened.

                FWIW: https://jerusalemcenter.ce.byu.edu/security-updates
Students and others were at the Center all of Monday and have been asked to remain at the Center on Tuesday. Students were in classes much of Monday and will be in classes much of each day this week. Following classes there are some student-organized activities and study time.

I still cant get over how hamas acts way subdued for a decade and then goes and kills 300 in one freaking rave party, and kidnapping kids. smh.

Several synagogues in SLC receiving bomb threats. Unreal.

                    1. GQP clowns in Congress have dramatically reduced our responsiveness, whether by not having a Speaker, not confirming hundreds of military promotions, not yet confirming the US Ambassador to Israel, etc.
                    2. Twitter used to be a go-to resource for breaking global news. Elon has completely broken that. He openly recommended two twitter feeds, one of which is pretty clearly antisemitic (past tweet: "Mind your own business, Jew.")
                    3. The speed and coordination of the Gaza strike may suggest involvement of additional countries.
                    4. This was a massive intelligence failure from guys who aren't known for intelligence failures.
                    5. The Iron Dome seems to be effective.
I'm probably butchering this Golda Meir quote but she said if the Palestinians laid down their arms, there would be peace. If the Israelis laid down their arms, there would be no Israel.

I don't know a ton about the history here, but it's always interesting to me that 20% of Israel's population consist of Israeli Arabs (Arab citizens of Israel). Of this group, 80% of them are Muslim. Could the reverse ever be true in Palestine or any Arab country for that matter?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

the west’s newfound tolerance of radical islam and antisemitism made these reactions not just possible but certain. no u.s. ally tolerated defenses of al qaeda or street demonstrations in favor of radical islam in the days after 9/11. antisemites have acted like hamas, hezbollah, etc. does not pose a real threat to israeli security and islamic nations writ large does not pose a threat to israeli existence and sovereignty. gaza will be a parking lot surrounded by razor wire in 90 days.

I don't see anything in the statement from Harvard students that expresses support or sympathy for what Hamas did. It's possible to simultaneous believe that what Hamas did was horrific and also believe that Israel has a history of being heavy-handed and is not guiltless when it comes to mistreatment of those in Gaza.

Ha. Relatively subdued = occasionally randomly lobbing thousands of rockets into civilian areas. But I guess that's not too bad because Israel has the technology to shoot them down...mostly. Even if Hamas had been actually "subdued", this weekend shows the problem of allowing an organization with a genocidal charter to exist. Eventually they are going to do try what they have always told us they believe.

About 50% of Israeli citizens are from or descendants of Jews living in the middle east who were expelled from their homes and had no where else to go but Israel. The notion that Israel is just descendants of European Jews who are continuing European colonialism is absurd.

yes. relative organizational and operational ineptitude is the only reason why hamas continues to exist. nobody should be surprised they did they thing they've been telling us they would do for 30 years.
