Monday morning, the state Libertarian Party issued what it called an “official statement on political assassinations.”

The statement read, in part, “We would never advocate for the assassination of a tyrannical President. That’s illegal. We were merely acknowledging how some members would react to one.”

At least we know the whole 3rd party thing is act for a lot of these types.

Yeah, a good book about those big thinkers is called "A libertarian Walks into a Bear."

Once upon a time, a group of libertarians got together and hatched the Free Town Project, a plan to take over an American town and completely eliminate its government. In 2004, they set their sights on Grafton, NH, a barely populated settlement with one paved road. When they descended on Grafton, public funding for pretty much everything shrank: the fire department, the library, the schoolhouse. State and federal laws became meek suggestions, scarcely heard in the town's thick wilderness.

The anything-goes atmosphere soon caught the attention of Grafton's neighbors: the bears. Freedom-loving citizens ignored hunting laws and regulations on food disposal. They built a tent city in an effort to get off the grid. The bears smelled food and opportunity.

A Libertarian Walks Into a Bear is the sometimes funny, sometimes terrifying tale of what happens when a government disappears into the woods. Complete with gunplay, adventure, and backstabbing politicians, this is the ultimate story of a quintessential American experiment -- to live free or die, perhaps from a bear.

            • Two incendiary devices were caught. It's believed Russia has targeted US and Canadian planes.

A series of parcel fires targeting courier companies in Poland, Germany and the UK were dry runs aimed at sabotaging flights to the US and Canada, Polish prosecutors say.

Katarzyna Calow-Jaszewska revealed late last month that four people had been arrested and authorities across Europe were investigating the incidents.

Western security officials have now told US media they believe the fires - which happened in July - were part of an orchestrated campaign by Russia’s military intelligence agency, the GRU

Don't worry, should Trump win he won't do anything. Im sure he will blame the media, or gays and, of course, the deep state

Of particular interest to me this election are the numbers libertarian candidates get this cycle compared to others. It's a bit of a convoluted mess so it may not yield much information. The Mises group who control the LP are all voting for Trump. The official LP candidate is not from the Mises group so I anticipate he will be the worst performing LP candidate in decades. But the down ballot LP numbers will be telling in just how pointless the party is.

                    • A particularly grim Election Day post from the usually pessimistic Nick Catoggio.

You don’t need to write a newsletter for The Dispatch to predict that he’ll try to overturn this election if he loses or will misuse his powers as president to persecute his opponents if he wins. You need only to have been alive since November 2020 and had access to a television set.

Yet despite the fact that we all know he’ll put the country through hell, win or lose, he’s polling better than he ever has and is viewed more favorably than he’s ever been. Republicans could have dispensed with him after January 6 or in this year’s presidential primary, and general election voters could have handed Kamala Harris a polling lead sizable enough that even Trump fans would have trouble believing the inevitable claims of cheating after a defeat. They didn’t.

Every opportunity to mitigate the damage he continues to cause has been squandered. We chose this disaster, knowingly and deliberately.

Sustaining the political leadership of a man who’s been described as a fascist by even his most eminent former advisers is the most despicable abdication of civic duty by the electorate in the history of the United States. We’ve chosen unfit presidents before, and a few sinister ones, and once chose a man whose victory forced Americans to question their basic moral compatibility—the right choice under the circumstances. Never have we been this close to choosing someone who meets all three criteria, though. With malice toward all, with charity for none: That’s what we’re on the brink of electing.
Even after my hard left political turn, I still love his writing.

                        • The market is sure happy today. I'm not sure if that's just the uncertainty coming to an end, finally, or if there's other factors at play. I do know that the stock DJT (Trumps media company) has had a very roller coaster ride in valuation and that roller coaster tends to follow his chances of winning...and DJT is up pretty big today. I'm hoping that's not a sign that most people are thinking he's going to win...God help us all if that's the case. MAGA will be here forever

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
