This short test from Pew Researcb Center was interesting and probably fairly accurate in my case (I'm one step left of center: "Ambivalent right", I think). I'd be interested in where others here fall on that spectrum.

As for Vance, I was a fan when I read his book upon its release, but he clearly struck a Faustian bargain with Trump that propelled him to the Senate. There are many fine quotes from J.D. about his running mate, including "reprensible," "idiot", possibly "America's Hitler," "cynical asshole," "cultural heroin", and much more. But he put all that aside for Trump's endorsement and now he's likely his V.P. Truly a man of integrity,, and that doesn't begin to address his love of conspiracy theories and lousy policy views.

Lol, I'll admit I was suckered enough to think it possible that Trump may swing to the center and try to appeal to more people than his base. Choosing an appealing running mate might be the way to do it. I was foolish to even think it was possible. The Vance pick means he intends to destroy economic conservatism within the GOP. May he fail.

It is been a while since I have voted for any democrat. I have been voting for 3rd party candidates for some time now.

I am guessing that JD Vance is respected by Trump... He likes people that are not afraid to speak their minds.

Get ready for tall the pie-in-the-sky promises in the same vein as cancelling student debt and universal free day care. This dude needs to manufacture some new support and fast.

A few things off the top of my head.
-Shoplifting laws in California (reducing <$950 to misdemeanor)
-Placement of biological males in female prison
-Opposing Voter ID laws
-Opposing anti-camping laws
-Supporting hormone therapy/surgery for minors
-Opposing all full-term restrictions on abortion
-Reparation payments

On many of these issues the Democrats are further to the left of Europe, but pretty out of step with centrist Americans.

--George Floyd protests that burned courthouses, cop cars, private property, etc./CHOP

--Federal regulations promulgated by Biden's administration that interpret Civil Rights Acts as precluding employers including religious ones from excluding gender affirming surgery for minors as discrimination on the basis of sex.

--"From the river to the sea"; "it depends on the context"

--The take over and vandalism of Columbia

--The Squad's Green New deal

--Closed schools and parks, and masks outside and on toddlers
