Well, I am pretty solidly left these days, so I would say that the right is not just slightly more crazier. But you and I are probably not miles apart. Maybe a mileOriginally posted by YOhio View Post
I mean theres the squad, which is always cooking up some kind of insanity. I could look up other examples but I don’t think we’re that far apart. I can live with you thinking the right is slightly more crazy than the left.
I will say that the last few years I've said that the Democratic party is the only functionally serious one in the US, irrespective of what its positions are. This whole Biden debacle has put that lie to rest. I agree with them more often than not, but they have some serious issues to address."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

I am not mainstream Right though. I am a centrist. I have ideals on both sides, which makes me want to try and knock some shit into people.Originally posted by BlueK View Post
Right now your support for the idea of legal immigration being made easier would be considered a radical Leftist idea by the mainstream right. They would immediately shut that discussion down with the Open Borders!! epithet.

I am also a centrist. I wish the GOP wasn't so radically pro-Trump and I think he's the much greater danger. He attempted a coup. I am happy the guardrails held but I am not as optimistic that they will again, as I don't think he'll put people around himself the second time that will push back. Prior to 2016 it was extremely rare for me to vote for Democrats.Originally posted by The_Tick View Post

I've heard Drumfph is difficult to work for and likes firing people. So that might've narrowed the field.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post
Burgum is out too, from latest reports.
The olds makers are still saying JD Vance. But I would be surprised if Trump picks a former "Never Trump'er"... Trump, unlike Grandpa Joe, has a good memory.

This short test from Pew Researcb Center was interesting and probably fairly accurate in my case (I'm one step left of center: "Ambivalent right", I think). I'd be interested in where others here fall on that spectrum.Originally posted by The_Tick View Post

As for Vance, I was a fan when I read his book upon its release, but he clearly struck a Faustian bargain with Trump that propelled him to the Senate. There are many fine quotes from J.D. about his running mate, including "reprensible," "idiot", possibly "America's Hitler," "cynical asshole," "cultural heroin", and much more. But he put all that aside for Trump's endorsement and now he's likely his V.P. Truly a man of integrity,, and that doesn't begin to address his love of conspiracy theories and lousy policy views.

It's really not unfoundedly conspiratorial to know there are links between Trump and Russia. He wasn't referred for prosecution but he hasn't given a glowing review or seal of approval for his behaviors. And plenty in his circle did have overt ties to Russia like Paul Manafort. Trump was scolded by the Israelis for sharing intel gleaned from Human Resources in Syria with St. Putin.Originally posted by YOhio View Post
As a whole I think they're equally radical, in some cases less so and in others more so.
Jan 6 is a good example. It was an abhorrent act and an embarrassment to our country. But you're fooling yourself if you think the left is incapable of something similar. The same left that, just this past May, took over college campuses, threatened Jews, shouted anti-semitic epithets, made insane demands on administration, and restricted freedom of movement for students. And we recently learned from the Biden administration that much of these protests were funded by Iran proxies. The same left that regularly accuses the right of acting on behalf of Russia. Of course there are the George Floyd riots and burning police cars and countless other examples of lawlessness and violence as means to a political end.
Yes homophobia is a common thing on the right and the left is justified in calling it out when appropriate. What I'm talking about is the stifling of debate or policy by way of bad faith accusations of phobia or racism.
I would be stunned if Iran weren't trying to destabilizing our politics and influencing these group.
Look no further than Tucker Carlson's creepy visit with Putin or the right's infatuation with Victor Orban.
I've referred to a Russian white paper that explained they will continue to exploit and encourage isolationist candidates and fuel extremism in all manners. If im the FSB or GRU, I start astroturfing the narrative that the assassination attempt was George Soros, the deep state the Clintons etc.
Watch for it though after he is elected. He will pardon the J6ers and like give some of them formal awards. Will turn federal civil employment positions into political appointment positions. And more.
I'd love to be wrong.
This corruption has little to do with the inherent philosophy behind conservatism and more so with the cult of Trump and his ilk.
Any type of philosophy has the capability of being a launching pad for this madness. But what is happening now is Trump and leaning into a false equivalency when it's not there doesn't help us deal the current problem.
Democrats haven't been clamoring for a civil war. Certain trumpists, including Mike Lee and MGT are talking it up.

Lol, I'll admit I was suckered enough to think it possible that Trump may swing to the center and try to appeal to more people than his base. Choosing an appealing running mate might be the way to do it. I was foolish to even think it was possible. The Vance pick means he intends to destroy economic conservatism within the GOP. May he fail.
