U.S. interests in the region were already on high alert and taking actions to minimize the affects of any Iranian retaliation. I highly doubt Iran would be satisfied with a mere "symbolic" response after suffering the loss of Suleiman at the hands of a brazen U.S. operation. So the Iranians fired highly inaccurate missiles at the U.S. presence in Iraq, even hitting parts of the airbase. It's highly likely that the Iranians gave the Iraqis some warning to clarify that the launch was targeting U.S. assets, not Iraqi assets.

But no matter how it happened, as you noted, Trump was not engaged, even indirectly, in some kind of wheeler-dealer arrangement that allowed the cowed Iranians to save face by faking an attack on U.S. forces. The guy is a bullshit artist, not a deal artist.
Iran is still ticked at the strike that took out Suleiman. In their minds, there's still a reckoning that needs to be exacted which "justifies" much of their muscle flexing around the world.

Wow! This is why I cannot vote for anyone with an "R" next to their name. "They just don't care?!!" Got it. Republicans don't care if they are lead into an autocratic disaster all for the sake of the party. WTAF? All of their flag waving, constitution loving, moral authority bullshit makes be crazy. Whiney bitches!!

So, he can't run for in state local public office, but he could run as a federal candidate?

So apparently the line being established here is that states can decide who qualifies to be on their local ballots based on the 14th Amendment but not when it's the president because it affects a national election.

No doubt. The guy was an all star diplomat/terrorist/intelligence operator. They lost a lot when he was killed. That's why I don't buy the "the Iranians needed a fake attack in order to save their honor" crap. They want blood.
              Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

And? Is that an excuse? To quote my neighbor's Trump flag, "No more bullshit".

Excuse? It just is. It exists within our biology. It's baked into the human experience. Tribalism brought about Nazi Germany. Tribalism brought about the downfall of Nazi Germany. Jan 6 was tribalism. Oct 7 was tribalism. Tribalism allowed our stone age ancestors to survive hostile tribes, and it allowed our stone age ancestors to wipe out others.

You're right, those are admittedly all good things, but it seems that those who shouldn't be tribal (you) who digitally hang with rational human beings (me) would know better.

I mean, we are on a BYU specific sports forum (in name at least). I am incredibly tribal. I'm a music snob. I loathe UofU athletics. And until recently I was quite proudly a part of a boisterous libertarian movement. I am often upset by Democrats and Republicans but my blood boils with hatred towards the LP and the capture of the libertarian sphere by crazy passersby and blood and soil types. Intellectually bankrupt hacks.
