Soft, high-pitched, near-to-tears, the rising inflection at the end of a sentence that suggests either uncertainty or a question.

LOL your response reminds me of some of the MAGA reactions on CSPAN from random callers after the address-- big shocker, eh? I think you all are being fed such a steady diet of 'Biden is feeble' that you area actually surprised when he doesn't come in on a walker. (WOW WHAT DRUGS IS HE ON TO FORM WORDS???) Mitt Romney I think had a pretty measured response: he liked the foreign policy bits with the urging to support Ukraine, stop Putin, support Israel's sovereignty while facilitating and accelerating humanitarian aid to Palestine since nobody else seems particularly worried about the tens of thousands of women and children being extinguished for no reason. Of course Mitt took issue with some of the domestic agenda set forth and the national debt solutions, but honestly it's kind of nice to not have a whole ass ad hominem response for once. Too bad Republicans are not capable of governing, generally speaking. The whole thing is kind of a pony show anyway, with Mike Johnson not applauding the call for humanitarian aid to Gaza (lol). My favorite part was when Republicans started booing mention of the bipartisan border bill, written by Republicans, that Republicans blocked bc Trump called an audible. Biden's reaction was hilarious-- 'oh you disagree? look it up, bitches' or something like that.Originally posted by Shaka View PostThat was awful. He came across as an angry old man and gave a stump speech instead of a SOTU. I kept wondering if they purposely gave him the advice (and possibly some stimulants) to act pissed off for the whole speech so that he would drop in the polls. Then he could be forced to drop out. It will be interesting to see if he gets a bump in the polls.

I thought his overall message was fine. The shouting was dumb IMO, but it seems to have worked if you gage the fawning response in the media thus far. I agree with Mitt that his foreign policy is good and his domestic policy is dumb. A million times preferable to trump of course. I look forward to him taking on Trump more directly going forward.Originally posted by Commando View Post

Like I mentioned above, the aggressive attack on the SCOTUS folks in attendance was a very trump-like move. Furthermore, if you read the Dobbs decision, the entire point was that this is an issue for the people and legislation, not for SCOTUS to decide. Therefore it makes no sense for Biden (and leftists in general) to say, "Shame on you SCOTUS, we are going to decide this at the ballot box now!" You dummies. That is exactly what they said should happen."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I suspect the speech content and tone were very much about shoring up and even motivating his Dem base (which is unhappy he is the nominee) and reaching out to independent swing voters by showing that while old, he is still a fighter, supports issues about which they care, and can put together 1) complete sentences and 2) coherent thoughts over the course of hour long presentation (two things The Dump cannot do).Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

On Dobbs, I take issue with the fact that everyone of The Dump's nominees went before the Senate and said that Roe was settled law. Bunch of liars. They should be scolded for their misrepresentations. That said, in doing what they did, they handed the Dems an issue that the Dems have for years said will bring out the base. That scares The Dump. We'll see if it is really that big of a motivator.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

Absolutely. You can bet they wanted to show some fight for the progressive base. Like clockwork, when my daughter heard he was going to build a port for Gaza, she said something like 'finally he is doing something that we (commie millennials) support'. Yes, the bluster was for the independent vote. It might have been unbecoming for a SOTU address, but there was a separate clown show egging him on. If he's going to get booed loudly and shout at, he's allowed to respond. And I think he actually did well with some of those responses to the hecklers.Originally posted by myboynoah View Post

And a thousand times yes, no matter how poorly Roe v Wade was decided, no matter how articulate Dobbs was written, what in the hell happened with 'settled law' that every one of those conservative judges gave deference to when they appeared in the Senate hearings?!?"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

When Biden said "Women are not without electoral or political power," that was a direct quote from Dobbs. It's wasn't a "shame on you SCOTUS" (although there is plenty to shame them about), it was "this is what you said, so they're going to prove you right."Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Also, why should fundamental rights be decided at the ballot box? Is an unpopular opinion any less protected by the First Amendment after a ballot initiative bans it?

Not meh! The right thing would have been in their confirmation hearings to say Roe was not settled law and that the issue needed to be resolved via legislation. Instead, they lied.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

It's funny you think it's a conservative problem when SCOTUS nominees have to play the game to get confirmed, as if the progressive nominees are open and honest about their judicial philosophy. The whole process is a clown show in large part because the progressive shenanigans played by members of the Senate. Let's not forget that Biden himself was one of the most egregious game player on the judiciary committee in the 80s.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostNot meh! Yeah, that is exactly the point I was making. Which is why it was a dumb thing to shout at the justices."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
