I think she'll go through to S. Carolina (unless she gets absolutely destroyed in NH, but that doesn't look likely yet). Then she'll end it when she can't even win her own state.

      • You guys can admit that there is a problem at the border without supporting Trump. It's a blind spot for most of you. Dismissive sarcasm isn't going to make the issue dissappear as important.

        • I don’t think the border is the issue and building a wall is a bandaid solution that doesn’t really change anything.

Immigration reform is needed, and Central America and Venezuela need to be stabilized. And America intervening often backfires in those countries. I don’t know that there is a good solution to the border issue. There certainly isn’t an easy one.

I'm a big proponent of legal immigration. Republicans are terrible about it (even Mitt Romney made it a big issue in 2012 when it wasn't on the radar for most people). But a lot of people have issues with people pouring over the border like that. In a highly polarized country, independents who are bothered by the images of the border can make a difference.

If the economy stays stable or improves, Trump is toast. He's an asshole and he is surrounded by assholes and suckups. His speech tonight was nothing but venom towards Haley and lies left and right. Trump doesn't have the advantage of running against 8 years of a democratic president. Stability will win the day. But if Biden has a health scare or declines further cognitively, it's going to come down to a small number of independent voters. Right now the border is his biggest weakness outside of his age. Just put some effort into it.

            • I thought deSantis's immediate Trump endorsement was bad. But this, this level of kiss-assery, seems like it will endure through the eternities:

100% immediate emasculation right there. And you know Trump relished doing it in front of everyone.

Yes indeed. The defensiveness is weird. As if we are the ones that need to be convinced.

It’s funny that you perceive the border as a blind spot for many here (can’t tell if you include me in that), but also expect people to make it a single issue election. If it comes down to Biden v Trump and all we can use to decide is the border, I’m still going Biden. Not because I think he has handled it well—he hasn’t. But I do expect him to be an adult about the issue. I expect Trump will fire off some EO like “shoot anyone swimming in the river” and then blame the leftist Supreme Court when it gets ruled unconstitutional.

So it appears they have a deal in place to help with the border which would be another huge bipartisan win. For months Joe Biden has said he’d essentially do what the conservatives have been asking for and yet, Trumps guy just wants him to do an executive order which I’m sure you conservatives would absolutely love.

What are the chances Trump tanks the agreement and what are the chances you bitch about Biden and the porous wall in 2 weeks?

Independents win elections. If voting margins are tight, and Biden doesn't make some progress on the border, that could make a difference. But if Biden runs a basement campaign again and the economy stays stable, it won't come down to immigration focused voters. It's just such an easy way to kneecap Trump further. It isn't a guarantee that Biden stays healthy for the next 10 months.

                        Ad hominems are unbecoming.

let's see how it plays out. It isn't just Biden and the GOP. The Dems in congress are part of the equation too. If the GOP wrecklessly torpedoes a compromise, Biden has ammunition to use. Again, he just needs to win the support of independents.

I'm not sure anyone contradicted that.

I think you're misreading things. I don't see a lot of people asserting there is no problem at the border. Biden deserves scrutiny but if that is someone's primary blame target I think they lack context.
Bothsidesism doesn't always apply. In fact, there seems to be increasingly more situations where that is less helpful.

Bothsidesism is a useful exercise is understanding context and how we may have arrived at the present point (of any issue) . It's an importance conversation to have and without it, solutions and course corrections are much more difficult to produce. But ultimately I agree that it can only get you so far. At a certain points someone needs to be the adult in the room and move beyond the tit for tat.
