Anyone who voted for Trump twice was a key part of his base, irrespective of whether they want to lay claim to being a "core supporter" or "die hard MAGA" or whatever. That's the question, IMO: will the people who held their nose and voted for Trump the second time around in hopes of owning the libs stick with him? Or are they so dedicated to owning the libs that the realize the Trump ship is sinking.

Spoiler alert: that bill won't pass. This is political theater.

No one owns libs like Trump. DeSantis is like if you asked Chat GPT to come up with a younger more serious Trump. It just doesn't hit as hard.

If GOP primary voters stuck with Trump two times around, I doubt a lot of them will flock to DeSantis or anyone besides Trump this time.

Correct. I voted for Trump twice. I didn't like the alternatives on the other side and to be honest, his policies are more in line with my personal views than what was happening on the other side. I also do not view Trump as a viable candidate for 2024. A majority in the Republican party held their nose and voted for him. I doubt DeSantis, or almost any other reasonable Republican candidate, will have trouble swaying anyone but the hardcore MAGA types.

For the record I still like Mitt.

              • Some dystopian shit from Florida. Bill would require bloggers to register with the state if they write about DeSantis and other elected officials:

I wouldn't be surprised if this had DeSantis's backing from behind the scenes.

Zero chance this isn't struck down.

                  • I can see possible reasons for it. There are a bunch of people running around calling themselves, "the press" that are really just rabble-rousers. The audit community is full of these people. They run around, usually with phony press credentials, filming, clogging up public access areas, and then publish crazy blogs/videos about how they perceive themselves as being treated. Much of the time it's not fair and accurate and completely slanted to whichever crazy views they have. This behavior is increasingly becoming a problem and this is possibly how they are trying to address it.

I don't mind some of the audit community, especially those that go after bad cops. However, there are significant numbers of them that are complete nutters. They exist on both sides of the political spectrum.

Be that as it may, this is a guy that people elected into office, and this is an issue that consumes this man's time. It worries me, not because I think it's an imminent threat, but because there is obviously some kind of appetite, on some level for this kind of authoritarianism. I honestly never thought I would see the day when freedom loving Americans would actually be advocating for this type of governance. In the words or Ed Tom Bell, I don't know what to make of it. Surely I don't.

Trump is going to melt DeSantis. It won't even be close. Then those in repub party that don't think Trump can win will return to him for the general election. Just ask Mitch McConnell.
