So I actually listened to the clip and unless I’m mistaken, the transcription is incredibly misleading and really just plain inaccurate.

Like frank, i''m curious why you think it's incredibly misleading. Even Trump seems to acknowledge his response is bad ("[this] will get me in trouble..."). i think his response accurately reflects his political world view: that the deep divide can't be fixed and he's fine with that. Throughout his business and political career, Trump has promoted an 'us vs. them" and '"'them' is the enemy". approach and he has no interest in resolving that.
